How Sick Can He Be?

Filip Kuba will miss his third straight game with an “illness” tonight.

To me, this just isn’t right.

At the risk of sounding like I’m just picking on the guy, how sick can he be? I mean, really.

I saw Kuba this morning. He looked fine. He had just been to breakfast and he was on his way to the rink, where he and Chris Neil were the only two Senators to go for the morning skate. Afterwards, Neil determined that he was going to play tonight against the Bruins, but Kuba deemed it necessary for another couple of days off to make sure he’s fully recovered from the flu?

Nope, it just isn’t right.

Bob McKenzie on TSN is reporting that Filip Kuba has been extended by the Senators for $3.7 million per for 3 years.

It’s All About The Presentation

Not knowing how long Kuba might be in town (he said he’s probably heading to Ottawa on Sunday), I figured I’d try to catch up with the soft-spoken Czech defenseman to get his thoughts on the trade and how everything went down....

This is what he had to say: “The way it was presented to me at the time, I knew even if I said no [to the trade] I wasn’t going to stay here on the team,’’ he said. “So it didn’t make any sense to say “no I’m going to stay’’ and then know I’m going somewhere else anyway.’’

This was one of those ear perk type moments when you start trying to read between the comments and begin to wonder, what does he mean by the way things were presented to him

Meszaros Traded To Tampa

The Ottawa Senators have traded defenceman Andrej Meszaros to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defencemen Filip Kuba, Alexandre Picard and a first round pick (previously acquired from San Jose).

Update 8:39pm ET (alanah): Also noted at the TSN link is this contract info—

Sources add that Meszaros is expected to sign a six-year contract with the Lightning averaging $4 million a season.
