Meyer Back To The Islanders

via the New York Islanders,

Freddy Meyer is an Islander again.

General manager Garth Snow reacquired the 26-year old defenseman this afternoon, picking Meyer up on re-entry waivers from the Phoenix Coyotes.

“The injuries we’ve recently had on our blue line prove you can never have enough depth,” said Snow. “We’ve always liked Freddy. He’s an intense competitor and he’s a very solid defenseman in all areas who is still just 26 years old. We only lost him earlier in the season because of a numbers game. We are very happy to have Freddy back as an Islander.”

Meyer Hoping For New Beginning With Coyotes

from the Arizona Republic,

Defenseman Freddy Meyer joined the Coyotes for their practice Tuesday before the team left on a two-game road trip.

“It’s good be here,” said Meyer, who was claimed off waivers Monday from the New York Islanders. “I’m excited for a new beginning for myself. It’s a nice, young team here, high energy, and I’m looking forward to playing.

“It was a little setback (to be put on waivers), but when I first found out I was on waivers, I knew for a week or so that something was gonna happen, wasn’t sure what. It was a little downer at first, but I was lucky enough to get picked up by Phoenix.”

As Expected, Islanders Try To Move Freddy Meyer

from On the Islanders Beat,

Because Meyer is in the final season of a deal that pays him $540,000, it’s possible he might be claimed by another team in need of defensive depth. The cost and term of Meyer’s deal would make him a bargain investment.

Once Meyer clears or is claimed off the Islanders’ roster, there’s a good chance free-agent defenseman Bryan Berard would be signed. It’s uncertain how quickly he would find his way into the lineup. The Isles scored on three of four power-play opportunities in their season-opening win Friday night in Buffalo.
