JJ’s Three Cheers: 10/26/10

It’s time, once again, to raise a glass and offer a toast (figuratively, of course – or not) to the NHL’s stars from a night ago:
***Cheers to Mathieu Garon of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who warded off a Philadelphia Flyers comeback attempt to the tune of 28 saves after goals from rookie Kyle Wilson (his first in the NHL) and Derick Brassard established an early 2-0 lead for the home squad. At 5-3-0, the Blue Jackets are still buried beneath Nashville, Detroit, Chicago and St. Louis in the Western Conference’s Central Division standings, making last night’s key performances from their backup goaltender and a couple of young stars that much more important.

from the Sunday Star Times (New Zealand),
Rachel Hunter must be keen on this one - she’s bringing him home! The 38-year-old bombshell has been dating 26-year-old Canadian ice hockey star Jarret Stoll for two years and when she comes back to New Zealand in a few weeks with her kids Liam and Renee, he’ll be coming with them.
The pair are rumoured to have bought a house together in LA and Rachel has even been talking about more babies.
According to friends, Jarret is a lovely guy and absolutely besotted with her, while she’s been quoted in New Idea saying: “I think I would like more children. I wouldn’t want to adopt though. I think I have two years left to have a child naturally if I want to.”

Stoll’s Uncertain Future

From Robert Tychkowski in the Edmonton Sun, these words from Edmonton Oiler, Jarret Stoll:
“It would be nice to know for sure, one way or another, what’s going to happen,” said the 26-year-old centre, who made it through the draft without being dealt but knows there’s still a long way to go between now and when the Oilers open camp in September.
“You hope a team wants you. If it’s Edmonton, that’s great, that’s what I want. But if it’s not, then you move on.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen and that’s kind of the thing that, if anything, bothers me. Not knowing. It can be a little nerve-racking.”

Those Darn Sticks
by Paul on 01/19/08 at 10:27 AM ET

from the Edmonton Journal,
Time and again, Jarret Stoll has had a stick snap in his hands. He’s switched manufacturers, tried different flexes, talked to the company representatives.
Now he might have reached his own breaking point. The shaft of another stick snapped in two on Thursday when Stoll took his turn during the marathon shootout session against the Washington Capitals. He was the seventh of 12 shooters the Edmonton Oilers deployed against goaltender Olaf Kolzig.
“It’s frustrating,” he said the morning after the Oilers had gained a point but lost 5-4 in the shootout. “Especially since I’ve switched and things were feeling good. ... Then all of a sudden it’s in your hand. In two pieces. It sucks. But we have to figure it out.
You know things are going right when Eric Staal scored his 3rd goal of the game against the Oilers, watch his stick snap on the goal…
