“I think that was a pretty strong reflection of what my feelings were on his play and that’s not a one-game snapshot. I don’t do that based on one game. I think there’s been a stretch of games where he …is such an important leadership role for this team need to play a higher level of hockey.”
-Kevin Dineen, head coach of the Florida Panthers on the recent play of Kris Versteeg who played a little over a minute in the 3rd period last night. Via Harvey Fialkov of the SunSentinel.

That’s an old fashioned butt kicking. There’s really nothing to say. I can work though .-.-. I’ve got nothing. I always try to be a glass-half-full kind of guy but [Friday] there’s nothing to say. We were very porous and didn’t create any offense. We got our tails handed to us and there’s no excuse.

“When I’m screaming like a fool on the bench what you do is you set a precedent with the referees and I’ll hang myself on that one because what we’re trying to do is get a lot of hits to the head out of the game and there were so many plays that I felt were dangerous plays.
“When you put that into a refs mind that you’re frustrated, the game obviously became lopsided and very disappointing with the officiating tonight.’’
-Kevin Dineen, head coach of the Florida Panthers. More on the game tonight from Harvey Fialkov of the SunSentinel.

“I don’t think we tried hard enough. There are a lot of little things that go on during the course of a game. .-.-. That’s six periods in a row that we showed little snapshots here and there, but we’re a far way away from where we were four or five days ago. We need to address that and soon. .-.-. We got outworked in our home building and that has some sting to it. It’s the first time for a lot of us who are new here. It’s got to stop right now.’‘

From the Florida Panthers:
Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that Kevin Dineen has been named the 11th head coach in the club’s history. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Kevin Dineen to the Florida Panthers organization,” said Tallon. “Kevin brings to our organization more than 25 years of playing and coaching experience. He played in more than 1,100 National Hockey League games and is one of only seven players in the league’s history to score more than 350 goals, while registering more than 2,000 penalty minutes.
“For the last several years, Kevin has been regarded as one of the top head coaches in the American Hockey League, leading the Portland Pirates to the AHL postseason five out of six years as the club’s coach. He is a player’s coach who understands our team’s philosophy and direction and someone who will guide the Panthers to future success.”
