How To Beat A Goal Scoring Slump

from Steve Zipay of Newsday,
“You try to find something that relaxes you, “Naslund said. “Whether it’s watching a movie or listening to music or playing with the kids. I think you need the mental release from thinking about the game and what’s going wrong ... Now, I’m just trying to enjoy it more than anything, have fun and enjoy the moment. I always think it’s nice to get your mind off hockey. I don’t watch hockey when I’m at home, I try to get a breather.”

Rangers Rolling, But Naslund Is Not

from Stan Fischler at Game On,
New York’s defense is playing as a solid unit, Gomez is backchecking and, as demonstrated against the Devils on Monday, the Blueshirts can clog the middle with the best of them.
Right now, the Rangers are inspiring smiles on the mugs of their loyalists. Perhaps a win tonight will change the minds of skeptics such as my bud, Dave. Not that The Maven wants to be pushy or anything, but a red light or two from Naslund wouldn’t be the worst tonic in the world.

Naslund Talks Vancouver Days
by Paul on 09/26/08 at 06:48 AM ET

from Tony Gallagher of the Province,
As he looked back Thursday, Naslund admitted he wasn’t overly happy here last season and that the Todd Bertuzzi incident weighed heavily on him, given he and his former linemate are close and it was he who was, in a small way, part of the reason the whole thing took place. After all, it was Naslund who was originally nailed by Steve Moore in Denver....
“It still bothers me what Todd has had to go through over this and the way it’s dragged on and on over the years,” said Naslund.
“I still keep in close contact with him and it’s been tough on him. It’s taken its toll. There’s no question he was standing up for me and for his teammates when it happened, and it all went too far. All of the circumstances around it went the wrong way and got out of hand. It’s been a long road and he’s been through a lot. I feel bad for him and the way it’s worked out for everyone involved.”

The Future Of Naslund

from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,
Naslund might be a lot of things, but he’s also the Canucks’ captain, the leading scorer in franchise history and is in the discussion of the greatest Canuck of all time. When a player of his stature is about to enter unrestricted free agency, there is usually some sign from the organization that re-signing him is a priority; that a great deal of importance has been attached to securing his name on a contract.
To date, there has been no such sign from the Canucks and while that could change, it’s also difficult conceiving of a set of circumstances where Naslund returns to this team next season.
Let’s start with simple economics. Naslund makes front-line money --$6 million US—and has provided second-line production for two seasons now.

Naslund Tweaks Groin

from the Vancouver Province,
Markus Naslund has a groin injury and is doubtful for Saturday’s game against Detroit.
Naslund missed Friday’s practice after tweaking his groin in Thursday’s win against Nashville. If he can’t play, Taylor Pyatt will move up to the top line.
“I think he’s been getting treatments for it but it got progressively tighter here,” Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault said.

Naslund Must Get Offensive
by Paul on 01/31/08 at 10:01 AM ET

from the Vancouver Province,
Naslund started Tuesday’s game against Dallas playing with Brad Isbister and Mason Raymond. That didn’t last long and by the end he had played with just about every forward on the team.
“I think his overall attitude has been real good,” Vigneault said.
“But I do think the fact I’ve tried him with so many guys, his morale has been challenged. Mentally, he has been challenged. Sometimes his effort slips a little bit and it happens, probably, without him knowing.”
Whether his harsh critics believe it or not, $6 million can buy a lot less than Naslund.

The Old Naslund

from the Vancouver Sun,
“In a way, I never doubted that I’d lost my scoring touch or something,” Naslund said. “I was just used to playing a certain way and playing with certain players. Maybe I’m more dependent on other players. I can only control my work ethic. I feel I’ve done my best. I haven’t scored lots, but I think the effort has been there all along."…
His offensive renaissance has come since Vigneault consolidated the offence and moved Naslund on to the top unit, at even strength and on the power play, alongside Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
