Marty St. Louis Says Bolts Need To Work Harder

from Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times,
There comes a time in every season going bad when someone — if that season is to be saved — forces those responsible to look in the mirror.
That is what happened Monday at the Ice Sports Forum when wing Marty St. Louis said Lightning players, including himself, have not worked hard enough, smart enough or consistent enough.
“Last year, there were a lot of games we just deserved,” he said. “We earned it every day. This year, it hasn’t been as much.”
The result is Tampa Bay is 13th in the 15-team Eastern Conference, nine points out of the eighth and final playoff spot and facing a crucial 12-game stretch in which nine games are at home and a season is on the line.

It’s plain and simple, there’s not enough guys that want to make a difference, their clock killers, that’s all it is. I’m [expletive] fed up.’’
“I don’t think there’s enough guys who really want to win. Yeah, we say the right things, but [forget] that. What’s winning? It’s being aware of every flipping play that matters, especially now when you’re in a hole. When you’re six or seven games over .500 and everything is rosy, you can make mistakes, it happens, you can live with it. But right now, when we’re in the situation we are, it’s plain and simple embarrassing.’’

Where Will St. Louis End Up?

From James Murphy at Inside Hockey:
According to one source close to some Tampa players, things have gotten to the point where this team may just be completely revamped again and that mainstay forward Marty St. Louis may very well be open to waiving his no-trade clause if team management approached him on the subject.
“Marty and the guys that have been here are not happy anymore,” said the source.
“There’s going to be a lot of movement there and I wouldn’t be surprised if Marty agreed to be moved out of there or even approached them soon. It’s just a real bad atmosphere and not something the veterans there have been used to. He would give them a list of teams and yeah he could be moved before the season’s over.”

Shoot The Puck Marty
by Paul on 11/03/08 at 08:09 PM ET

from Lightning Strikes,
St. Louis has just one goal and 21 shots in 10 games. And while he readily admits “that’s not enough,” he also said his spot on the point has made him think more about passing than shooting. Melrose said he hopes that will change.
“I hope it increases (St. Louis’ shots) because he has the puck more,” Melrose said. “Marty has to be selfish on the point. He has a great shot that he gets away quick.”
St. Louis had zero shots Saturday against the Senators and missed the net on a shorthanded breakaway. That followed a four-shot, three-post effort Thursday against the Sabres.
