from Contact Music,

Actress/singer Hilary Duff has sparked rumours she’s taking her relationship with hockey star Mike Comrie to the next level, after she was snapped wearing a ring on her wedding finger.

Kevin Lowe vs Mike Gillis

Kevin Lowe has stated he’s not likely to consider doing business in the future with the new Canucks GM, given their previous run-in as agent-vs-GM last summer over Michael Nylander.  But not everyone has sympathy for Lowe’s position.

From Jason Botchford at The Province:

“I am horrified that someone’s integrity is called into question for something they didn’t do and by someone who did something much worse than Mike Gillis could ever be accused of,” agent Rich Winter said. “It’s an embarrassment to the game that Kevin Lowe would use the news media to make these accusations given what he’s done.”

In December 2003, Lowe was shopping Mike Comrie, Winter’s client, and found a taker in then-Ducks GM Bryan Murray. The pair agreed to a deal that would send young Anaheim forward, and future Stanley Cup champion, Corey Perry and a first-round pick to Edmonton for Comrie and a second-round pick.

Murray was worried he would lose Comrie to free agency if he made the deal. To appease Murray, Lowe authorized the Ducks’ general manager to begin negotiations with Comrie. Anaheim then signed the forward to an extension and, in its view, the deal was done.

But “not so fast,” says Botchford.  The rest of the story...

Comrie Enjoys Playing For Islanders

from Newsday,

With the Feb. 26 trade deadline approaching, Comrie likely would be valuable in the trade market. Two NHL scouts at the Pittsburgh game marveled at his second goal and how he scored through a tiny opening. But Comrie said he has no desire to leave.

“This is an organization I want to be a part of,” said Comrie, who will be a free agent this summer. “We’ve got a great core group of guys. We’ve got an ownership that wants to win. They treat us extremely well. I feel we’ve got the best coaching staff in the league, and it’s a situation that I want to be a part of. I think we give ourselves a chance to win every night when we compete. We’ve had a few injuries, but you’ve still got to give yourself that chance.”

Everyone Likes Comrie

from Chris Stevenson of the Ottawa Sun,

The Senators joined the New York Islanders winger for dinner Tuesday night because they apparently really do like him and not because there might have been a chance to see Comrie’s squeeze, singer/clothes designer/teen idol Hilary Duff.

“I’ve got a lot of friends in the NHL now,” joked Comrie, who made the Islanders his fifth NHL organization in seven years when he signed here as a free agent during the summer.

All Mike Comrie

from David Amber at ESPN,

Q: Why did you sign only a one-year deal?

A: I wanted to see how I fit in on the top line and to see if I enjoyed playing in the New York area. It’s better to see that it works for me and works for them, then we can move forward.

Q: So, how has it been so far?

A: I like it here. We have a great group of guys. We have to win games by everyone chipping in. We don’t have a $10 million player on this team. Everyone has to come and play hard every night.
