Ray Ferraro On Dany Heatley

from David Pollak of Working the Corners,

Heatley’s first roommate in Atlanta back in 2002, and now a TSN analyst. Turns out Ferraro had a lot more to say than what ended up in the story and Emmons passes the rest along for fodder here. Without further ado, here’s more of what Ray Ferraro had to say about Heatley:

On Dany Heatley’s image around Canada: “Much of the stuff written about him personally, is inaccurate. Now, you can disagree with his decisions — asking for a trade and then turning down the first one. You can say that’s the modern athlete and you probably wouldn’t be wrong. But it doesn’t change that Dany’s a good person and has a good heart.”

Describe Heatley’s mentality: “He’s far more competitive than you might think from his outward appearance. Off the ice, he’s the kind of guy who takes five minutes to walk five feet. He goes at his own pace. On the ice, he loves to score and he will do whatever is required to get himself in that position.

The Word Finally Came

from Ray Ferraro at TSN,

We met in the morning to walk over to the arena, Landon wearing a different suit and hoping for a quick selection.

Sometimes you look back at an event and realize its significance only in retrospect. With the 29th pick Friday night, Detroit traded down three spots to No. 32. They acquired a 3rd round pick to move down, and 10 minutes after getting into the arena Saturday morning, we heard words I had dreamt about many times watching my son chase his dream.

Ken Holland was at the microphone and said “with the 32nd pick, the Detroit Red Wings select, from the Western Hockey League’s Red Deer Rebels - Landon Ferraro.”

When I write those words, I still have tears in my eyes.

TSN Adds Tortorella & Ferraro

As expected....

from TSN,

TSN has added two big names to its roster with NHL coach John Tortorella and 18-year NHLer Ray Ferraro joining NHL on TSN for the 2008-09 season.

Tortorella moves directly from behind an NHL bench into the TSN studio, making his broadcast debut as part of the NHL on TSN panel for 60 games, including weekly appearances on TSN’s marquee Wednesday Night Hockey telecasts.  The 16-year NHL coaching veteran and 2004 Jack Adams Trophy winner will appear alongside studio host James Duthie and Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger.

Ferraro will work approximately 30 games as a game analyst, making his NHL on TSN debut in the broadcast booth October 14…

Ferraro To TSN

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,

Former Oilers SportsNet colour commentator Ray Ferraro is going to work for TSN, replacing Glen Healy, who took a paying position with the NHL Players Association. Two possible candidates to replace Ferraro are former Penguin winger Rob Brown, who has done some good Oiler pay-per-view work, and Rod Phillips’ longtime radio sidekick, Morley Scott.

Here’s another longshot name to consider: onetime Oiler coach and goalie Ron Low, who was dumped by the Senators.

more hockey notes including Geoff Sanderson looking for work.

Our favorite for the Sportsnet job would be Morley Scott.  Remember the day Alanah spent with Morley?
