Regehr-to-Buffalo trade completed

Via the CBC’s Tim Wharnsby, the NHL officially announced the details of the trade which has sent Robyn Regehr and Ales Kotalik to Buffalo:
Buffalo gets Regehr, Kotalik and 2012 second-round pick from Calgary for [Chris] Butler and [Paul] Byron.
Update 11:40am: Calgary Flames release -
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today the acquisition of defenseman Chris Butler and forward Paul Byron from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Flames defensemen Robyn Regehr, forward Ales Kotalik and Calgary’s 2nd round pick in 2012.
Butler, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Sabres accumulating five goals and 31 assists along with 66 penalty minutes in 155 games. He was originally drafted by Buffalo in the 4th round (96th overall) in the 2005 NHL Draft.

Robyn Regehr has agreed to waive his no-move and will accept trade to Buffalo. Kotalik involved as well.
Sabres owner Terry Pegula very influential in Regehr’s decision to waive and accept move to Buffalo.

Regehr Deals With Trade Rumors

With the Feb. 28 trade deadline fast approaching, Regehr can expect to hear and read even more speculation in the coming weeks during the countdown to what is shaping up like an unofficial national holiday north of the border.
“It’s part of what goes on with pro sports,” Regehr said. “I’ve been here for a long time now. Every so often things like that heat up.
“There’s really nothing I can do about it until I get approached by Jay (Feaster) or someone else who wants to talk about that.”
Internet rumours run rampant that Regehr has agreed in the past to waive his no-movement clause, but the rugged defenceman said he hasn’t been approached on the subject.
“So far that hasn’t happened,” he said. “I just have to go out there and play. There’s certain (media) guys who have had me traded since the fall.”

Has he been approached by management to waive his no-movement clause? “I’m not going to get into that,” he said. “That’s just part of sports. That’s the way it is.”
But does he want to leave?
“I would like to win here in Calgary,” he said. “That’s my first option. That always has been. I’ve made that fairly clear not only with talking about it, but also with the actions that I’ve done. Things like re-signing here in Calgary to an extension at the time and not going to the open market.”

Keenan Didn’t Adapt To The Current NHL

“Mike’s a guy who was coaching in his heyday in the ’80s and early ’90s when he had his success,” Regehr said late Friday afternoon after news of Keenan’s dismissal broke. “If you don’t adapt, it doesn’t work anymore. It’s become a lot more technical.
“We just were lacking in that area.”...
Since 1996 in St. Louis, his teams have not advanced beyond the first round of the playoffs.
“The biggest difference from back then is the margin of error,” Regehr said.
“The margin of error was a lot greater back then. You were able to play that type of hockey. There was so much talent on some of those teams. There was a big, big discrepancy. They could just turn it on in a period and win games and do it on a regular basis.”

Memories Of Africa

One place, during the NHLer’s recent trip to Africa, had propsfor them to actually demonstrate—branches that crudely looked like hockey sticks.
So, using a lock for a puck, they demonstrated passing and shooting.
“I don’t know if the kids got it,” Regehr says with a chuckle, “or if they just thought we were crazy.”
Crazy or not, the memories that the Calgary Flames defenceman re-turned with from Africa will last with him forever.

Playing With The Kids

To have hockey-playing giants show up in their villages must have been stunning for kids in Mozambique.
Last month’s encounters were no less eye-opening for said giants—Robyn Regehr and Zdeno Chara.
The National Hockey League players’ one-week tour through the nation on Africa’s southeast coast—on behalf of Right To Play (motto: “Creating a healthier and safer world for children through the power of sport and play’‘)—provided more than a few stunning moments.

Regehr Day-to-Day

The Calgary Flames received some much-needed good news Friday as defenceman Robyn Regehr’s foot injury was not as serious as originally thought.
After Regehr was examined Friday, a Flames spokesman said the diagnosis was a bone bruise and tissue damage in his left foot, which he sustained taking a shot off that foot in the second period of Thursday’s 3-2 shootout loss to Pittsburgh.
The team said following the game that Regehr had suffered a fracture.
Regehr is listed as day-to-day.
