from the News & Observer,
Hurricanes captain Rod Brind’Amour said today that he had no plans to retire after 20 years in the NHL and would return next season.
“I made a commitment a while ago to play and I’ve got a contract to play it out,” he said today. “So it’s definitely what the plan is.
“Personally you have to believe in yourself. I would not play the game if I did not think I could still do it. And not just as a fourth-line player. My goal is to get back and contribute with this team as I feel like I can.

Brind’Amour Plans To Return Next Season

from Chip Alexander of the News & Observer,
But while 20 years in hockey can take its toll, while this season has had its ups and downs, Brind’Amour says there will be a 21st, that he hasn’t given any thought to retirement.
“It’s not a question of whether I’m going to play again,” Brind’Amour said. “I know I still love the game, and I still think I can play. And that’s the key.”
For Brind’Amour, this season has been more trying and taxing than any of the 19 before it. There were times he appeared slower than usual on the ice, when he couldn’t quite make plays, lost key faceoffs, turned the puck over.

from SportsTicker via the National Post,
Due to an unspecified nagging injury, Carolina Hurricanes captain Rod Brind’Amour returned home Wednesday and will miss the team’s upcoming games in San Jose and Phoenix.
The Hurricanes would not describe the specific nature of Brind’Amour’s problem, saying only that it was a lower body injury that has been bothering him for a number of days.
Carolina coach Paul Maurice did say the injury is not related to Brind’Amour’s knee problems....
The Hurricanes also announced Wednesday that right wing Scott Walker will be placed on injured reserve with an upper body injury.

Brind’Amour Can’t Sit Around

from the News & Observer,
There’s only one problem with Rod Brind’Amour’s recovery from knee surgery, as far as his father is concerned: holding him back.
“He got operated Friday afternoon. Saturday morning at 7:30, he’s lying on the floor in his bedroom and he’s lifting 55-pound weights. He’s got his leg up on a chair,” Bob Brind’Amour said before the Carolina Hurricanes’ 5-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday. “I went up there and said, ‘You idiot. What are you doing?’ He’s so dedicated. He knows his body, but in this case he’s got to tone it down a bit.”

Canes Lose Their Leader

from the CP via TSN,
For a team that has been motivated by its absence from last year’s playoffs, Brind’Amour’s injury gives Carolina - which earlier in the week dealt away two key components of its 2006 Cup run and is missing nine other key players with concussions, illnesses and other ailments - another obstacle to overcome.
“There’s no question (that) in the locker room and on the ice, he’s going to be missed,” coach Peter Laviolette said. “From leadership, to the example in the weight room, on the ice, as a person, as a player, he’ll be missed.”
The injury to the two-time defending Selke Trophy winner and notorious workout warrior - he’s perhaps best known for his lengthy post-game sessions with the weights - creates a hole in the middle of the Hurricanes’ most productive line of late.
