Panthers Goaltender Clemmensen Points Finger At Defensemen

from Steve Gorten of the Sun-Sentinel,
After allowing seven goals in Saturday’s loss to the Capitals in Washington, D.C., including five in a third period he described as “like quicksand out there,” Clemmensen said his teammates didn’t protect the front of the net well.
When the puck got there, he added, there was such a scramble by the Panthers that “it looked like a fire drill.”
Coach Pete DeBoer’s response Sunday: “I understand where a goaltender who has let in [12] goals in his last two starts would be frustrated, but it’s misdirected.
“When things aren’t going well, I think it’s important we all self-reflect and see what we can do better in order to help the situation. I don’t think finger-pointing is real productive at this point.”

Clemmensen Wants More Playing Time

from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,
Clemmensen said that he expects to talk to general manager Lou Lamoriello before he becomes a free agent. He said the two have tried to have a sitdown since the season ended, but their timing and travels have prevented it.
“We’ve been meaning to get together to talk about things,” said Clemmensen, who had to skip his end-of-season sitdown with Lamoriello when he was called off to join Team USA at the World Championships in Switzerland. “I expect we will talk. It just hasn’t happened, yet.”
Clemmensen, who will turn 32 on July 23, said a return to the Devils is still a possibility. It sounds like the odds are against it, though.
“I haven’t ruled out going back ot the Devils,” he said. “It’s just going to depend on a lot of things.”
Clemmensen said his top priority is playing time.

from Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,
Back with the Devils after an injury to Kevin Weekes, goalie Scott Clemmensen said he was actually flattered when GM Lou Lamoriello decided not to trade him at the March 4 deadline.
Clemmemsen, who will serve as Martin Brodeur’s backup while Weekes recovers from a left knee injury, said he asked to be traded when he was sent back to Lowell (AHL) but wasn’t shocked when it didn’t happen.

from Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,
Devils’ GM Lou Lamoriello said before Tuesday night’s game against the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre that he will try to trade goalie Scott Clemmensen before Wednesday’s 3 p.m. deadline.
Clemmensen, who won 25 games for the Devils this season, is in Lowell (AHL) since Martin Brodeur’s return.
“We gave Scott Clemmensen our word we’d do whatever is possible,” Lamoriello said. “We said all along if something came about, we’d do it. Saying that, you just don’t give a player away.”

Brodeur Activated, Clemmensen Sent Down
by Paul on 02/25/09 at 11:24 AM ET

from Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,
Martin Brodeur was activated by the Devils Wednesday morning and fellow goalie Scott Clemmensen was sent back to Lowell (AHL).
The move sets up the scenario for Brodeur to start Thursday night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche at the Prudential Center. Were the Devils not planning to start Brodeur, there would’ve been no reason to demote Clemmensen.
“It’s the best of all worlds, other than (for) Scotty,” GM Lou Lamoriello said as practice was beginning Wednesday morning. “You always have to make the best decision for the organization.”
Clemmensen, who was with the Devils the past four months under emergency recall, did not have to clear waivers. Kevin Weekes would’ve had to clear waivers.

The Value Of Clemmensen At The Trade Deadline
by Paul on 01/02/09 at 07:57 AM ET

from Mark Everson of the NY Post,
It could be a major temptation for Lou Lamoriello, but at the March 4 trade deadline he’ll likely pass on picking up a significant piece of loot.
He’ll probably have to resist renting Scott Clemmensen to the highest bidder, unable to depend on an immediate and full contribution by Martin Brodeur Martin Brodeur , who would barely be back in action by then....
The Devils could likely demand significant bounty for Clemmensen, perhaps even a first-rounder from an injury-struck contender, as he heads toward certain summertime departure as an unrestricted free agent.
