Scott Nichol Expected Back Tonight

With patience, rest and gradual rehabilitation, Nichol has worked himself back into condition, ridding himself of headaches, dizziness and sensitivities to noise and light along the way.

After a 38-game absence, he’s expected to return to the lineup tonight when the Predators play host to the Washington Capitals.

“We get a guy who’s real committed, helps the penalty kill and is a real battler,’’ Predators Coach Barry Trotz said. “Right now he gives us some depth and we haven’t had a lot of that lately. We’re going to need everyone to ramp it up again and go from there, so it’s huge for us.’’

Nichol Out With Broken Thumb

Predators center Scott Nichol has a broken left thumb, is scheduled to undergo surgery this afternoon in Nashville and will miss at least the remainder of the Predators-Red Wings playoff series.

He’s expected to be sidelined 2-3 weeks.

Boot Camp Training Prepared Predators

“For eight hours, we had to crawl under barbed wire while they’re throwing grenades and smoke bombs,” said Nichol, eyes lighting up following a 2-1 overtime win.

“We had to pull a Humvee a mile-and-a-half, we shot M16s and handguns, we flew in Black Hawk helicopters ... It was all about building teamwork and it was probably one of the hardest days of my life.”

“We were running through the woods and swamps and through holes and these night stalkers—who fly in at night and they never leave a man behind—are trying to grab one of our guys and they couldn’t,” said the 33-year-old Edmonton-born grinder.

“They said it was the first time in 25 years they couldn’t (capture) one of our guys. They were all pissed off. We had to stick together.”

Nichol Gets Five Game Suspension

Nashville forward Scott Nichol has been suspended for five games for cross-checking Montreal’s Patrice Brisebois in the head in the Predators’ win over the Canadiens on Saturday night.

‘’The crosscheck by Mr. Nichol to the head area of his opponent was reckless and dangerous,’’ said Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations. ‘’Although no serious injury resulted,the action is unacceptable.’’

Scott Nichol Facing Possible Suspension

Predators center Scott Nichol is scheduled to talk with NHL officials here this afternoon and could face a suspension for the double-minor, high-sticking penalty he picked up in Montreal on Saturday.

Nichol was given the four-minute penalty late in the second period of the Predators’ 5-4 shootout victory, after officials whistled him for what appeared to be a crosscheck to the chin of Montreal defenseman Patrice Brisebois.
