Avery Wanted In On The Action Last Night

“I didn’t expect it (the fighting). It’s an exhibition game.” said Avery, who skated today with about ten other Rangers who weren’t on the flight to Detroit to face the Red Wings tonight. “But I wish I had played.”
Why?
“For a very obvious reason, as obvious as reasons can get,” he said.
Asked about his status for Friday’s game in the Garden, Avery said, “Oh yeah, I’ll be ready.”

Avery Expects The Cup

If Avery can be the spark, the Rangers have the potential to light a fire that will burn bright through the NHL.
“We’re gonna win a lot of games. We’re gonna be a very difficult team to beat on a nightly basis and we’re gonna win the Stanley Cup as far as I’m concerned,” Avery said. “I think that, and I feel that right now this team is ready to make a 10-month commitment with each other and it’s gonna be something that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.”

Avery Talks Media

...My personal favorite, though, was Avery talking about his reputation in the press, and how most of the national hockey media is clueless when it comes to him (he actually used the word “stupid” when referring to the Canadian press, which was a bit strong). Then he said that he really only has to answer to us—meaning the media that covers the Rangers. It was a nice touch, although I’d like to hear him take it a step further and say he really only has to answer to me.
