Various U.S. publications and social media are reporting that Souray’s ex Anjelica Bridges, “the Cougar of the Year,” is alleging that Souray tricked her out of millions and now is allegedly “threatening” to keep their children in Canada against her will.

Souray Speaks On Edmonton Season
by Paul on 04/09/09 at 08:26 AM ET

from Dan Barnes of the Edmonton Journal,
“Some guys came in here this year thinking this is an easy game,” said defenceman Sheldon Souray, who shot straighter after practice on Wednesday than he has in the last 10 games.
“ ‘The crowd loves me. I got points in junior, I got points in the minors, I got points here last year, I’m going to be great this year.’ Well, any professional will tell you, when people know about you, now there is expectation. Opponents know you and pay attention to you. The organization puts more expectation on you.
“Look, last year was a totally different situation. You hope that some of this experience lends itself to making you better next year.” If the sharpest of those accusations sound like a shot across the bow of the sophomore set, Souray said his focus was not that narrow. Young and old have to take responsibility for this debacle, he stressed, and he made it clear by missing only goalie Dwayne Roloson with the broad brush of blame.

“We don’t have as many points as we should have had after the last 10 games. If we would have had those points, we wouldn’t be talking about Columbus or St. Louis. We’d be talking about challenging Vancouver....”

Souray Proving His Worth

from Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun,
With 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points, while at the same time being a plus player this season, Souray has not just been a big shot from the point but a complete player at his position.
Scoring the game winner in each of the previous two games and producing a goal and an assist when it mattered most in last night’s 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators, Souray became the Oilers’ top goal scorer for the season to put him on pace to duplicate his 64-point Montreal Canadiens 2006-07 season and do it without that massive minus.
“You are always a work in progress but I don’t think people knew me well enough, or had seen me play enough,” said Souray of those who thought his acquisition was a major mistake by the then general manager....”

Souray’s Top 5

From the Edmonton Oilers:
Oilers defenceman Sheldon Souray has nothing against Celine Dion—there are simply certain songs that he’d rather not hear the Canadian songstress perform, including an up-beat tune by rowdy rappers The Beastie Boys.
Check out Souray’s Top 5 in a few categories. (And keeping Celine away from “Suck My Kiss” by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers is another fine choice by Souray, if you ask me. Just sayin’.)

Sheldon Souray on the Playoffs
by Alanah McGinley on 04/24/08 at 01:34 PM ET

During the playoffs, Sheldon Souray is blogging weekly at AskMen.com. Today’s installment includes thoughts on home ice advantage, and the importance of veterans:
A veteran just brings experience. He’s never too high or too low. You can’t think you’ve lost the series after one game; you have to be even-keeled and provide stability for the young guys. And that ties into the home-ice advantage. A vet has been there before, so he’s not intimidated to play in places like Montreal, where the crowd is loud.
When you’re in the playoffs, you just have to trust that everyone else on your team is going to step up.
At the bottom of the post, you can find contact info to send your questions to Souray.

Souray Signing Hasn’t Worked Out
by Paul on 02/07/08 at 08:57 AM ET

from Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette, .
..But the biggest free-agent bust is Sheldon Souray, whose season appears to be over because of a recurring shoulder injury.
Souray is a magnificent physical specimen, but he has also proved brittle in a career that has been marked by injuries.
He missed the entire 2002-03 NHL season with a wrist injury and has played more than 70 games only twice in his nine-season NHL career.
That should have set off a warning bell for Edmonton general manager Kevin Lowe, but he was blinded by the fact Souray played 81 games last season for the Canadiens and had a career-high 26 goals and 68 points. He set an NHL record for defenceman when he scored 19 of those goals on the best power play in the league.

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,
There is rock bottom and then there is the cold knowledge of what rock bottom will look like. It was 13 years ago that Richard Souray, father of soon-to-be NHLer Sheldon Souray, decided to choose sharing his son’s life over life with the bottle.
“I knew that Sheldon was going to be drafted. And I knew that I would at least be around the periphery of it,” Souray told ESPN.com in a recent interview. “And I also knew he didn’t need a drunken dad around.”

Souray Backs Edmonton

from the Calgary Sun,
“I had a tough time with how the city was being perceived,” said Souray, who suited up against the Flames last night in their pre-season encounter. “I could also understand because they went through a situation where their best player took them to the finals—(Chris) Pronger—and him wanting to leave sets the stage and people could ask, ‘Why would he want to leave after having that great year?’
“I could understand and see how some guys would think that way, but I would never put myself in that situation.”
Don’t underestimate what Souray’s signing did for the team and its psyche.

Bombs Away
by Paul on 09/21/07 at 09:41 AM ET

from Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun,
One shot. One goal. A bullet from the right point that Vancouver Canucks goalie Cory Schneider never saw - even though he wasn’t screened.
“You see him bomb that one?” said head coach Craig MacTavish. “Wow!I knew he had a shot, but that thing was in and out of the net before the goalie even thought he was shooting it.”
And that’s what the Oilers are looking for - potency on what used to be an offensively-impotent blue-line. You might not want to be the forward charged with creating traffic in front of the net when Souray is unloading his cannon, but Edmonton’s power play coach is about to look a lot smarter.
