Health Issues In The East
by Paul on 09/14/09 at 01:49 PM ET

from Kevin Allen of Mucking and Grinding,
...the No. 1 health concern in the Eastern Conference might be the Sabres’ need for center Tim Connolly to remain in the lineup this season.
The Sabres need him to play 80 or more games this season and he has been able to play only 38% of his team’s games over the past three seasons....
The frustration of Connolly’s injury history is that he is highly productive when he does play. Last season, he registered 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points in 48 games. He had 40 points the season before.
“From where I am sitting and from where (coach) Lindy Ruff is sitting, he is a very important piece to our success,” said Buffalo general manager Darcy Regier. “What we saw when he was healthy is that when we have him and Derek Roy in the middle then we have two quality offensive lines. It’s not as easy to key on one of our lines.”

The Connolly Talks
by Paul on 03/04/09 at 09:28 AM ET

There has been talk this morning the Sabres are still negotiating a new contract for Tim Connolly. Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News feels he will be moved…
My previous suggestion that the Sabres re-sign him was based on him returning at the right price and having a healthy lineup around him get into the playoffs. Apparently, he doesn’t want to come back for less. The banged-up Sabres could miss the postseason even if they keep him, so why keep him?
Columbus and Vancouver are interested in Connolly, but Chicago appears to have an inside track. The Blackhawks are looking for a No. 2 center and would be willing to include defenseman James Wisniewski in a package with the Sabres. The two teams were talking Tuesday.
added 9:39am, via Darren Dreger of TSN,
Sources tell TSN the Buffalo Sabres have tabled a two-year contract extension at better than $4 million per season to keep forward Tim Connolly in Buffalo.
Although the offer is considered to be strong, it may not be quite good enough to get the deal done without further negotiations.

Connolly Will Know Where He Stands Soon
by Paul on 02/28/09 at 10:27 AM ET

from John Vogl of the Buffalo News,
Most observers are keeping their eyes on Connolly. The gifted, oft-injured playmaker will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The sides have been discussing a contract extension. If talks prove futile — or if juicy offers come Regier’s way — the Sabres may decide to deal Connolly for assets that would help them now and next season.
After Friday’s workout in the Islanders’ practice facility, Connolly firmly stated what he wants.
“The No. 1 option is to stay in Buffalo,” the center said. “Right now I don’t think about that too much. I think about how important these games are and how important it is to win hockey games right now and make the playoffs.”

Connolly Would Be A Fit In Columbus
by Paul on 02/25/09 at 07:45 AM ET

from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News,
In terms of truth, I’d rather swallow whatever drivel A-Rod is selling than the garble generated near the NHL trade deadline. The only thing planted between an overage of gossip and a shortage of substance is an exaggeration of facts. But every now and again, a juicy hockey rumor actually makes sense.
That brings us to the latest “Tim Connolly is headed for [insert team]” chatter making the rounds in recent weeks. This one had the pending unrestricted free agent going to Columbus, where the Blue Jackets have been clamoring for a center of Connolly’s ilk.
And why not?
Connolly alongside Rick Nash would be frightening with the big winger manning the left side and the right-handed center wheeling and dealing the way he can when healthy.

Connolly Has Another Injury

from John Vogl of the Buffalo News,
Lindy Ruff saw Tim Connolly get leveled, and he immediately was concerned. Not just because the Buffalo Sabres center has a history of concussions, but because the hit was hard enough to hurt anyone. It certainly hurt Connolly....
“Tim’s just got a bruised chest, so he’s going to be day-to-day,” Ruff said. “Don’t feel it’s bad, but don’t really have a handle on how much time it’s going to take.”

More Health Issues For Connolly

from Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News,
Even though he had practiced all week, Tim Connolly’s sore back is now a major issue for the Buffalo Sabres because it’s more than just lingering stiffness.
Connolly was a surprising scratch from Friday’s season opener and Sabres coach Lindy Ruff revealed after the game that his center has a hairline fracture in a vertebrae.
“He was trying to get through it in practice all week,” Ruff said. “We felt he could get through it, the doctors felt he could get through it but he couldn’t. It just got too painful.”

Report: Sabres Lose Tim Connolly for Season
by Alanah McGinley on 03/21/08 at 06:11 PM ET

From TSN,
In an interview with Buffalo radio station WGR, Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier confirmed that Connolly will have season-ending surgery on his hip.
Injuries have proven to be a continuing theme during Connolly’s six-year NHL career. The native of Syracuse, New York missed almost the entire 2006-07 season due to concussion and in the past has missed time due to knee, groin and upper body injuries.
The surgery will be performed Monday by hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon - the same doctor who recently operated on Islanders’ goalie Rick DiPietro.

Decisions in Buffalo
by Alanah McGinley on 03/17/08 at 01:54 PM ET

From John Vogl at The Buffalo News,
The Buffalo Sabres’ coach could face his toughest decision of the season Wednesday when his suddenly impressive team returns to the ice to face Tampa Bay. The Sabres have won two in a row and, at times, looked dominating doing it. All four forward lines were solid, with a player from each scoring Saturday during a 6-2 victory over Toronto.
But once again, Connolly could become a factor. The oft-injured center might be healthy enough to play against the Lightning. He sat out the three games last week, and the team has three days between games this week. That might be enough time for Connolly’s sore hip to get enough rest.
So, what’s a coach to do? Does he stick with the same lineup, reward the 12 forwards who spent the weekend playing well? Or does he risk disruption by inserting Connolly, one of his finest all-around players and a guy who can make a difference when healthy?

from WGR 550,
Plenty of veterans missed practice this morning at HSBC Arena. Adam Mair has an ankle injury that Lindy Ruff said would keep him out weeks. Tim Connolly has a strained oblique will be out for an undetermined amount of time. Ruff insisted that his injury has nothing to do with his head.

Sabres Turn To Connolly
by Paul on 09/12/07 at 10:38 AM ET

from WGR,
Lindy Ruff knows what’s on the tops of the minds of Sabre fans, and, yes, life without Chris Drury and Daniel Briere will be a change for him as well.
“We’re going to miss qualities that both those players brought to our team, but the past couple weeks of players being around, they’ve already gone past that,” Ruff said Wednesday morning on The Howard Simon Show. “The players realize the opportunity that lies there with added responsibility and added ice time.”
The first name Ruff mentioned was oft-injured forward Tim Connolly, who returned for the playoff run in the 2006-07 campaign.
