via the National Post,
Nine-time Grand Slam champion Monica Seles is dating Thomas Golisano, owner of the Buffalo Sabres, the New York Post reports.
Golisano confirmed the relationship to the Post’s Page 6 on Tuesday when the newspaper asked if the two were dating.
“Why do you want to know?” he asked coyly, before replying, “Monica and I see each other."…
There are 32 years difference between Seles, 35, and Golisano, 67.

The Sabres and the Art of Denial

From Jim Kelley at Sportsnet.ca:
One thing we’ve learned is that the art of denial is exactly that; it is an art form and it has reached new and fascinating heights.
For instance, lost in a spate of denunciations is the fact that no one in the Sabres organization denied the original point of the story that the team is for sale. What minority partner Larry Quinn said was that, “We are not in negotiations to sell the team.” Quinn neither named the “we” nor did he say that team owner Tom Golisano, the man most likely to be in the discussions to sell the franchise he purchased out of bankruptcy in 2003, was or was not involved. In fact, Golisano is said to be at the winter meetings in Florida but nowhere to be seen or heard. The owner made no public appearance after Day 1 of the Board of Governors meetings despite the fact he winters in Florida and the other 29 owners have, essentially, come to his house.

from Ryan Kennedy of the Hockey News,
In an interview with CBC’s Elliotte Friedman on the weekend, Buffalo Sabres owner Tom Golisano was roughed up by the sharp reporter on several fronts, but most illuminating was Golisano’s claims the Sabres may not make money this year. To which my heartfelt response is:
So?

from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News,
In the real world, the boss is the boss. Not happy with the boss? Find a way to make things work or look for another gig. In the NHL, the boss is the boss until players approach unrestricted free agency. And that’s when the boss stops calling the shots, and the player becomes the boss....
Unfortunately, it’s not going to change unless owners regain some leverage over players. There’s talk about including term limits on contracts under the next CBA. The issue was considered but pushed to the side during the lockout. No-trade clauses should be outlawed. The NFL-style franchise tag should be included. Teams should be able to negotiate extensions two years before a contract expires, not one.
Last night Elliotte Friedman of HNIC did another great inteview with Sabres owner Tom Golisano. You will get a pretty good picture of the way Golisano thinks and I recommend you watch it.

Sabres Owner Looks At His Team

fro the AP via the Post Star,
“Who wouldn’t want to keep Brian Campbell?” Golisano said. “But the fact of the matter is, just our desire to keep him is not the only factor. ... We have to deal with the issues of other player’s salaries, and we can’t go beyond certain limits.”
Golisano noted the Sabres are on track to finish with a winning record for the third straight season, after having losing records the previous three years. And he noted the Sabres have been hampered by injuries that have contributed to them losing 13 games by one goal, including eight shootout losses.
“Look how competitive we’ve been these last three weeks,” Golisano said. “How can you argue with the results? I’m sure they’d like to block out that 10-game (winless) streak and have a chance to do it over again, but that’s not reality. So on we go.”

Larry Brooks on the Teppo Numminen suspension,
There were, as well, no considerations of human decency involved here either, and the whole world now knows that. It’s quite the partnership this owner has his with players, this owner who may or not believe that charity begins at home but most assuredly does not believe that charity begins with the home team.
