Moen Lucky To Escape Serious Injury

Travis Moen never saw it coming Monday night, the skate of Ottawa’s Matt Cullen carving into his face like a scalpel.
“It hit me so fast, I didn’t have time to be scared,” the Canadiens forward said Thursday, speaking in the team’s Bell Centre dressing room after a brief morning skate.
Moen’s injury is a grotesque sight, a beautiful/macabre template for any horror-movie makeup artist.
His Canadiens cap, pulled tightly over his forehead, did little to disguise a ragged stretch of about 50 sutures that begins above the bridge of his nose, curves through his left eyebrow, dips into his eyelid and meanders to the corner of and below the eye.

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of forward Travis Moen to a three-year contract (2009-10 to 2011-12). As per Club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Travis Moen is a character player. He is versatile, and he plays hard. His size and style will contribute to adding physicality to our team”, said Bob Gainey.

Eye-Gouge Has Ott Facing Suspension

Dallas Stars winger Steve Ott received a match penalty in a scrum that occurred immediately after Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Anaheim and has been suspended awaiting a review Monday with Colin Campbell, the NHL’s chief disciplinarian.
Ott will not be able to play today (Sunday) against Pittsburgh.
A match penalty is given for deliberately injuring an opponent. Ott gouged Anaheim’s Travis Moen in the scrum.
“It was an accident. I didn’t mean to do it,” Ott said.
