Zajac Will Miss Time

image

Per Brian Compton of the NHL

“Devils GM Lou Lamoriello confirmed Thursday that Travis Zajac, who finished third on the club last season with 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists), will miss the first month and a half of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon. Zajac suffered the injury Wednesday during an off-ice training workout.”

Devils in the Details: September 20, 2010

• Tom Gulitti discusses the disappointing finish last season from Jamie Langenbrunner.  Said Langenbrunner on the media’s theories for his late-season struggles:

“I usually don’t read what goes on, but after the season I read a lot of what was said and I’m not going to comment on what’s the truth and what’s not,” Langenbrunner told me. “It’s probably somewhere in the middle of what’s said. I’m not going to drag that out there. That’s the past. I’m happy about the direction the team is going and looking forward to that.”

Devils in the Details: September 18, 2010

Devils in the Details is a daily round-up of links to all things Devils-related throughout the season.

• Tom Gulitti discusses the flexibility tryouts Marcus Nilsson and Adam Mair would give the Devils should they need to deal a forward to get under the salary cap.

• More on Mair from John Fischer at In Lou We Trust, who takes an in-depth, by-the-numbers look at the gritty Sabres forward.  The numbers don’t look good.

Lou Lamoriello likes the look of his team thus far.  Mark Everson agrees and calls the defense the best since Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer left.

via Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

The Devils have avoided Friday’s arbitration hearing and re-signed restricted free agent center Travis Zajac to a multi-year contract.

Did Hatcher Bite Zajac

from the AP via TSN,

...Hatcher’s version of the story was different.

“If he’s cut, good, but I didn’t bite him,” Hatcher said. “I didn’t think anything of it until someone mentioned it to me.

“He went like that (face wash) right across my face. He got his glove on my tooth, almost pulled it out. It’s all sore.”

Hatcher could face an NHL suspension, especially if there is video showing him biting Zajac. Devils coach Brent Sutter saw one replay, but didn’t get a total picture of what happened.

“It shows Trav pulling his hand away with the glove still in Hatcher’s mouth, like a dog on a bone,” Sutter said. “It’s not something you like to see in the game, let alone a veteran player like that.”
