Deadline Monday: Your Best Hockey Stories
by Alanah McGinley on 11/28/08 at 01:58 PM ET

Last Tuesday, Paul Kukla’s NHL.com blog invited readers, bloggers and all media to share their favorite personal hockey memory. The hope is to create a list of links at NHL.com on Tuesday, directing hockey fans to all those stories.
- To those readers who don’t have a blog or website you can directly and we’ll be sure to publish all them on the KK Member Blog by Monday. (Thank you to all of you who’ve already sent them in. Everyone else, keep ‘em coming!)
- To all other blogs and websites that post their own stories be sure to the links to your sites and Paul will post those links at NHL.com as well. (You can also add those links to the comments of this post, if you want.)

More details here. Hopefully by Tuesday we’ll all have a nice list of personal hockey tales linked at NHL.com that everyone can enjoy.
P.S. A big thank you to everyone that’s taking part and also helping promote this on their own sites. It’s greatly appreciated.

Vancouver Canucks Embracing New Media

From Rebecca Bollwitt at NowPublic:
A few weeks ago the streets and Skytrain stations of Vancouver were plastered with posters to advertise the new Canucks season. The theme, “We are All Canucks”, and the unique twist is that they used photos of players in plain-clothes, fans on the concourse, and snapshots of hockey bloggers and podcasters.
In the interest of disclosure, and as Rebecca also noted in her article, the Canucks campaign does feature myself and the other Crazy Canucks as well.
Given how much negative attention has been brought to the issue of NHL teams and fan-media in recent weeks, I just wanted to point out that there are some teams working hard to find a balance on this issue. In my experience, the Canucks themselves (you can check out their FanZone) have come a long way in recent years.

Covering Hockey Online: Marty Henwood of Hockey.com
by Alanah McGinley on 05/22/08 at 01:08 PM ET

While we’re all anxiously awaiting the start of the Stanley Cup Finals this week, I took the opportunity to undertake a short interview with Marty Henwood, the Managing Editor at Hockey.com.
Hockey.com is new to the scene this year, but has gained a lot of exposure and very quickly. Marty himself has worked in media relations as well as stints in broadcasting and print journalism. And most recently he has graduated from covering the pro-golf scene for seven years to be full-time immersed in everything hockey.
Rather than analyze the Pens/Wings series (I think we’ve all read enough “expert” predictions to last us a lifetime) I thought I’d ask more about the world of hockey journalism online, and Marty’s own endeavors—everything from covering pro-golf to writing his own hockey book, and the future plans of Hockey.com.

A Touch of Hypocrisy
by Alanah McGinley on 04/10/08 at 05:04 PM ET

From Barry Melrose Rocks,
But what really bugs me is hypocrisy.
When the MSM preaches about how they’ve gone to J-school and are so much more important because of it, that’s fine. When the MSM calls bloggers no talent hacks that reek of fan bias, that’s fine. There’s one problem with all that, though. You see, when you say those things, boy you had better back them up. Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is just a case of someone in the minority not representing the upstanding majority. Tell me if I wrong because, unlike many newspapers, BMR has a comments section after every article. Oh, excuse me, post. But majority, minority, whatever. If the MSM’s rules are to single out one person and make them a poster child for the whole, then I think I should be allowed to play by those rules as well.
So today, we examine Mr. Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun. Why? Lately, with the hometown Sens facing the Pens in the playoffs, he has sounded more like a Senators fanboy or a crazed message boarder than an actual journalist.
Also: links to the original Brennan story and its fallout can be found at James Mirtle’s blog.

Great feature just on HNIC pre-game featuring many of the well known hockey blogs. The mention was much appreciated and a great job by all the bloggers involved. We will have more in a bit.
