from Ducks,com,
The Ducks have signed Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray to a four-year contract extension which runs through the 2015-16 season. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
“Bob has positioned us well for the future,” said Ducks Chief Executive Officer Michael Schulman. “He has added youth to our current lineup, with several exciting prospects still on the horizon. He deserves the stability this contract extension brings.”

Ducks GM Murray On Wisniewski Suspension

from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog,
In supporting the eight-game suspension of defenseman James Wisniewski late Thursday afternoon, Ducks GM Bob Murray said his player “crossed the line” with his hit on Chicago’s Brent Seabrook in Wednesday’s night game at Honda Center.
But Murray also took issue with Wisniewski’s punishment of eight games as handed down by NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell following a morning hearing with the parties involved.
“First of all, we love the way Wiz plays and we want him to play the game hard,” Murray said. ”That’s how he has to play and he’s very effective doing that. In this instance, he crossed the line. He went too far and he knows he was going to get suspended. I applaud the league cracking down on these things.”

“Olympic hangover?. Excuses are for losers. You knew the level of play was going to be higher coming out of the Olympics than it was going in. That’s just the way our game is. You have to want it bad. Bottom line, we don’t have enough guys wanting it bad.”

Credit Goes To Ducks GM

from Curtis Zupke of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,
Bob Murray inherited a lot of responsibility when he stepped into Brian Burke’s general manager shoes last November.
He also inherited a mess.
Already a key member of the organization’s brain trust, Murray was given the reins to a club that had established a winning culture and is expected to maintain it in the mad salary cap era.
To that end, Murray has largely steered the Ducks out of the financial handcuffs that Burke had placed on them in order to get the Stanley Cup in 2007.
The Ducks will enter the 2009-10 season with breathing room in the salary cap, unlike in years past where tight numbers resulted in the sacrificial player movement that saw Bobby Ryan start last season in Iowa.

Cross-Checked In The Press Box

from myFOXdetroit,
While the players were on the ice exchanging handshakes, high above in an executive suite Ducks General Manager Bob Murray was seething over the controversial goal that ended his team’s quest for the Stanley Cup.
A Detroit Police report lead to an assault investigation involving Murray. An upset and angry Murray, the report notes, picked up a high bar stool and hit 55-year-old Rachel Paris on the left chest, arm and shoulder area. She was treated by first aid personnel and interviewed by police.
Paris said in a phone interview she was in the press box working as a stage manager for a media outlet that she would not identify. A passionate Red Wings fan, Paris said Murray was apparently upset over her enthusiasm and used a stool on her to express his displeasure.
“I was taken to the boards by Bob Murray and survived the hit. I felt like I was cross-checked and I didn’t even have the puck,” said Paris.
Should Murray be charged with a criminal misconduct? Paris said “no” and declined to file a formal police complaint.

A press release from the Anaheim Ducks,
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has named Bob Murray Executive Vice President and General Manager. At the same time, Brian Burke has been named Special Consultant to Chief Executive Officer Michael Schulman.
“Brian respectfully declined our contract extension offer last week,” said Schulman. “With his support, we decided to make the transition at this time in the best interest of the organization. Brian and I have been discussing his future with the Ducks for some time. Once he decided last week not to extend his contract, I decided Bob was the obvious successor and Brian agreed.

Brian Burke Gone from Anaheim

By way of TSN‘s text message breaking news updates, I just received this message:
“Brian Burke is out as the GM of the Anaheim Ducks. Bob Murray is taking over.”
TSN has that much info up on their site now as well. Updates to follow shortly. News conference scheduled for this afternoon.
Update 2:24pm ET: From the Toronto Star, this comment—
The Star’s Damien Cox reports that Burke will stay on as a consultant with the Ducks until the end of this season.
Update 2:40pm ET: More added to the TSN story—
Sources say Burke will, in this advisory capacity, have the ability to freely negotiate future employment opportunities as a GM in the NHL.
That would pave the way for Burke to be hired as president and GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the days, weeks or months ahead, if the Leafs and Burke so desire. And there is strong reason to believe that is precisely what will happen.
Update 4:05pm ET: Press release from the Ducks available here.
