Hockey Playing Started At An Early Age

from Bob Boyes at CBC,

My son, Brad Boyes, is in his fifth year as an NHL hockey player, and has been the leading scorer on the St. Louis Blues for the past two years.

Who would have guessed that 27 years ago? Certainly not me.

Brad is the second of our four children. He has an older brother and two younger sisters, all of whom love and play sports still. We are a sports family.

As a toddler, Brad would play mini hockey in the kitchen whenever he could with his brother, mother, and/or me.

Blues Looking To Boyes For Goals

from Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,

Boyes enjoyed a fast start, scoring five goals in his first six games, but he has scored just one goal since Oct. 25.

“I’m one of the guys who has to pick up my game offensively,” Boyes said. “I’ve got to put the puck in the net. I’ve got to get going again.”

Murray has been shuffling his lines for much of the season, due to injuries and the ineffectiveness of some combinations. The forwards have gotten used to working in different combinations.

Now he seems ready to reunite Boyes with Tkachuk (just one goal since Oct. 25) and Kariya (just back from the injured list) starting Friday night. In that scenario, Berglund would center Stempniak and David Perron on the No. 2 line.

Brad Boyes Ready For The Season

from the CP,

He feels at home in St. Louis now and is ready to assume a leadership role with a young Blues team that has parted ways with veterans Jamal Mayers, Mike Johnson, Ryan Johnson and Bryce Salvador since last season’s trade deadline.

“I’ve always felt comfortable in junior in (a leadership) role and in the minors after a couple years,” said (Brad) Boyes. “I think that I’m getting to that point now where I’ve learned from some great players and I’ve sat and watched a lot.

“We’ve got our leaders, our head guys, but there’s no reason why I can’t help out too.”

Key to Rebuilding the Blues

From Jeff Gordon at the St Louis Post-Dispatch,

The new Blues management team has done many things right while rebuilding this downtrodden team.

Near the top of that list was the decision to send offensive defenseman Dennis Wideman to the Boston Bruins for versatile forward Brad Boyes back on Feb. 27. This was wasn’t a big move, but it was very important.

“One of the best trades I’ve seen,” Blues goaltender Manny Legace said with a chuckle. “He’s been a key part of the team since he got here. I’m glad he’s here.”
