Janssen Offer His Thoughts
by David Pavlak on 09/03/11 at 01:33 PM ET

With the recent deaths of three NHL enforcers, it was only a matter of time until one of them decided to speak up on their behalf. Cam Janssen has started to speak about the hockey life, the difficulties of being an enforcer, and the depression and hard times that comes with the job.
Rich Chere of The Star Ledger reports:
“I think it has something to do with the job. Absolutely,” Janssen said. “People look at the fame and the money part of pro athletes and they don’t understand how hard and stressful it can be. Listen, I have the absolute coolest job in the world, but it’s also one of the most stressful jobs in the world, too.”

Cam Janssen Talks Baseball Brawls
by Paul on 08/12/10 at 05:02 PM ET

from Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
“To me, it’s pretty scary when you’ve got guys hitting you from behind and there’s 40 guys out there throwing punches and you’re not looking,” Janssen said. “You get blind-sided and all of the sudden you’re down in the pile getting kicked in the face. It’s a scary thing, but sometimes it’s kind of humorous when you see some of those guys try to throw punches.”
Comments made by Cincinnati’s Brandon Phillips, calling the Cardinals a bunch of whiners, is what instigated Tuesday’s fight. One day after Phillips’ comments, Cards catcher Yadier Molina objected to Phillips giving him a friendly tap on the shin pads, and that’s when the dugouts emptied.
“That was great that Yadi did that,” Janssen said. “He’s not going to take that from him, and why would he? The Cardinals are a great organization. They’ve got a great team, and they’re classy. If someone was calling the Blues that, there would be hell to pay when they to Scottrade Center, I’ll tell you that.”

Cam Janssen Hit On Matt Bradley Last Night
by Paul on 02/14/10 at 09:09 AM ET
Comments (13)
from Tarik El-Bashir of Capitals Insider,
Janssen, who appeared to lead with his elbow, said: “I was just coming back and [Bradley] had the puck. He cycled it back, and he was looking back like he felt the puck was still on his skates. I finish my hits. I thought it was a good opportunity. His head was down and I was just trying to get the boys into it. I hope no suspension, but we’ll see what happens. If it happens, it happens and that’s the way it is.”

Blues’ Janssen Fined, But No Suspension
by Alanah McGinley on 02/25/09 at 03:07 PM ET

From TSN:
St. Louis Blues forward Cam Janssen has been fined $2,500 for his high hit last night on Zbynek Michalek of the Coyotes, but he will not be suspended.
The incident happened in the first period behind the Phoenix net. Janssen jumped off the ice during a check and got his elbow up on Michalek. No penalty was called on the play.
Here’s video of the hit. Not great quality, but clear enough we can argue about it if you feel we must…

Keenan Calls For Janssen Suspension
by Paul on 01/14/09 at 08:36 AM ET

from Flames Insider,
In the aftermath of Tuesday’s oddball match against the St. Louis Blues — plenty of bad blood, but, curiously, little pep to the game — Calgary Flames coach Mike Keenan had plenty to say following the 3-1 win.
* About St. Louis RW Cam Janssen’s hits on LW Andre Roy and D Robyn Regehr: “He definitely left his feet (on Roy), and he definitely left his feet on Regehr. The two hits he made . . . he jumped and leaped. He definitely left his feet with the intent of hitting a player who didn’t have the puck. A deliberate intent to injure. There’s no question in my mind. I watched it over and over just to make sure that I was looking at it clearly. It’s up to the officials and the league to address it. He broke Prustie’s jaw (Dec. 5 at St. Louis). But this one was so blatant and so obvious . . . there’s no need for that tactic in the game. You can body guys all you can and drive them with your shoulder, but you start leaping at guys and leaving your feet? Then . . . you losing respect for the game. The league should take some action and suspend them.”

Surgery A Possibility For Jannsen
by Paul on 09/19/07 at 05:47 AM ET

from The Record,
Add Cam Janssen’s name to the list of Devils who might need surgery.
The 23-year-old enforcer dislocated his right shoulder for the second time in less than a year during Monday’s 3-2 preseason loss to Philadelphia in Trenton. Janssen said Tuesday that his shoulder popped out of the socket while he was throwing punches during both of his first-period fights with Philadelphia’s Jesse Boulerice….
Janssen underwent an MRI on Tuesday and said he will find out “in the next couple of days” whether he will require surgery to fix the shoulder, which never healed fully after he dislocated it in a fight with Anaheim’s George Parros on Nov. 24. He missed 12 games last season because of it. Surgery would likely keep him out for at least two months this time.
