from Adam Harris of WRAL,
“He’s still in the free agent market, and testing it. And we have not done anything to add a player in his position.”
Jim Rutherford’s conversation with The Insiders on Thursday began with those comments on the status of unrestricted free agent Chad LaRose. The Hurricanes were vocal about their hopes to sign LaRose before the open signing period began on Wednesday at noon.
“We’re hoping to re-sign Chad,” continued the Canes GM. “If we can do that, I think everybody will be happy.”

LaRose No Longer In Canes Plans

via Chip Alexander of Canes Now at the News & Observer,
Canes general manager Jim Rutherford said Wednesday night that it now appears unlikely free agent forward Chad LaRose would be signed to a new contract.
“It’s not going to happen,” Rutherford said Wednesday night. “I informed (Morris) that we had another deal we were working on, that I was giving him a courtesy call. He said he would run everything by Chad and call back in an hour. I waited but they never called back.
“Obviously they have a deal somewhere else. So we’re working on signing another free agent. It’s time to move on.”

Video Review: Carolina at Boston, 19:58 of 2nd period
Hockey Operations reviewed the shot by Carolina’s Larose to see if the puck was entirely across the goal line. The referee’s call on the ice was no goal - therefore video review needed to determine conclusively that the puck was over the line. Video review determined that it was inconclusive as to whether the puck crossed the goal line in its entirety - no goal.

LaRose Out With Broken Leg

from the News & Observer,
Unfortunately, during the third line’s first shift, LaRose lost his footing and crashed into the boards, breaking his left leg.
While LaRose has just 17 points this season, he’s on the penalty kill unit and he’s a guy the Canes depend on.
“It’s a big deal,” Laviolette said. “He’s got a broken leg, and he’s going to be out for a while. He’s an energy guy and a heart and soul guy on this team. And he’ll be missed.”

LaRose Looking For Upshall

from the News & Observer,
After the Hurricanes won the shootout for a 6-5 win Saturday after 65 minutes of rough-and-tumble hockey, Carolina forward Chad LaRose stood in the hallway between the two dressing rooms looking for Flyers forward Scottie Upshall.
LaRose emerged from the Carolina dressing room furious with Upshall for “dirty” and “personal” things he said on the ice.
“I even put someone else’s shoes on so I can kick him in the face,” LaRose said.
Hurricanes defenseman Niclas Wallin and video coach Chris Huffine retrieved LaRose from the hallway and LaRose declined to comment afterward. He was escorted past the Flyers dressing room to the Carolina bus by another team staffer.
