Osgood Is The Key To The Wings Success

from Kevin Allen of Mucking and Grinding at USA TODAY,
Coach Mike Babcock is looking at other forwards to score more in Franzen’s absence, but my view is that goaltender Chris Osgood is the key to overcoming Franzen’s loss. The Red Wings still have a dominating defense and they simply need Osgood to be at his best.

Don’t Blame Osgood
by Alanah McGinley on 06/12/09 at 11:44 PM ET

From Drew Sharp at the Free Press:
The coming days will find Detroit in a constant state of complaint. Those who fervently believed in the inevitability of a downtown championship celebration will seek blame for the Stanley Cup inexplicably leaving town.
The more-stubborn conspiracy theorists will take to their graves the certainty in their minds that Pittsburgh’s remarkable recovery from a 3-2 series deficit was a league-orchestrated operation to fulfill Sidney Crosby’s championship destiny.
But there’s one flaw in that theory. You mean there was only one flaw?
Crosby didn’t play the final 30 minutes Friday after an apparent knee injury.
There’s plenty of fault to go around following this collapse.
Point a finger at the lack of secondary scoring, Marian Hossa’s vanishing act against his former team, as well as the missing in action Tomas Holmstrom and Jiri Hudler.
But you can’t blame Chris Osgood.

Q. I how much do you relish these opportunities under these circumstances of going into an opponent’s arena when you know they’re going to be all over you from the first drop of the puck?
CHRIS OSGOOD: It’s fine. I’m not so sure they’re going to be all over us. But our goal is for them not to be. Our goal is for us to kind of take it to them this time. We learn from our mistakes.
I think the last time we went in there, I don’t think we were physically fatigued in Game 3, just mentally we weren’t as sharp as we usually are. So this time we’re going in fully rested and ready to go. So I expect us to play our best game. I really do.
Q. How good was it to have the day off? What did you do, and what was it like to get out there and get a spirited little workout in?
CHRIS OSGOOD: Yesterday just took a huge rest. Watched some TV. Watched the Tigers play. Took a two and a half hour nap. Haven’t gotten a lot. I’m banking some sleep here. I’ve been pretty busy. Just watched the basketball game. Just pretty much rested all day. Today felt a little stiff when I first got out there, obviously. But got loosened up as we went along. So it was good to get the kinks out today and feel sharp for tomorrow.

Q. Do you think you’ll be healthy enough to play Game 4?
PAVEL DATSYUK: Yeah, I’m healthy now. But we’ll make tomorrow a game decision. A game decision. That’s it.
Q. What do you remember when you blocked that shot, you know? As an athlete, you go through a lot of different injuries. Just how painful it was then, and at any point did you think that maybe you wouldn’t even have a chance to be a game-time decision, that you might not be able to play at all?
PAVEL DATSYUK: What I remember, just I blocked shot, this is all, but I’m so happy I did my job, I blocked. And after I don’t want to take off my skates. You know, I finished game or not. Now every day it feels better and better, and I hope it’s gonna help me.

Osgood Is The Difference
by Paul on 06/01/09 at 08:40 AM ET

from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star,
Just like last year, the Pens are now looking at having to win four straight or at least four out of five to take the Cup. Only one team, the ‘71 Canadiens, has ever won the title after losing the first two games of the final.
But that’s just the surface story. The reality is this year’s final is very, very different from last year, both in terms of the intensity of the competition and the nature of the two games played so far.
The Wings, battered by injuries, have been outshot in both games and either outplayed or at best fought to a draw.
Yet they lead two games to none.
The reason, aside from the fact Justin Abdelkader is outscoring both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin combined, is Chris Osgood.

Osgood vs. Fleury
by Paul on 05/29/09 at 08:31 AM ET

from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail,
When the Stanley Cup final starts tomorrow night in Detroit, though, Osgood and Fleury will be the last two goaltenders standing. And they are tied for first place in the most important category of this year’s playoffs at 12 wins each.
This is the second consecutive showdown in the Cup final for them, with Osgood and the Wings handily winning the best-of-seven series in five games a year ago to win his third Stanley Cup ring. However, Osgood, 36, is regarded as a veteran who has had the good fortune to play for a great team for most of his career while Fleury, 24, is considered another of the great young talents on the star-studded Penguins roster.
“With Chris Osgood, if you look at history, when he’s played on teams that are not so good [St. Louis Blues, New York Islanders], he’s been not so good,” said Mitch Korn, the goaltending coach of the Nashville Predators. “But there is something about playing for the Detroit Red Wings, like playing for the New York Yankees, that makes players elevate their games in response to everyone else.

Still Doubting Osgood?

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,
Perhaps one day, about five years after Chris Osgood is done with his NHL career, we’ll all wake up and realize he was a better goalie than anyone ever gave him credit for.
Perhaps it will be the day he goes into the Hockey Hall of Fame with 400-plus wins and a few Stanley Cup rings.
But, until then, it seems Osgood will have to live with the fact no matter what he does, people will second-guess him.
“It doesn’t really bother me to be honest,” Osgood told ESPN.com during an interview over lunch Monday. “I know I have respect from the guys in the room and they know what I can do.”

It’s Not Osgood’s Fault He Plays For A Good Team
by Paul on 04/19/09 at 11:03 PM ET

from Kevin Allen of Mucking and Grinding at USA TODAY,
For years I’ve believed that Rogie Vachon has always paid a price for having the misfortune to have played for too many poor to mediocre hockey teams. Arguably he’s the best goalie not in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Now I wonder whether Chris Osgood will always pay a price for having the misfortune of playing for an exceptional hockey franchise.
Osgood has 389 regular-season victories, three Stanley Cup rings, two of them earned as the No. 1 goalie. He has 61 career playoff wins, tying him for 12th on the NHL’s all-time list. Depending upon the Red Wings’ fate, Osgood could climb as high as eighth this spring.
Only three goalies in NHL history—Patrick Roy (23), Marty Brodeur (22) and Curtis Joseph (16)—have more postseason shutouts than Osgood, who earned his 14th Saturday night.
Unquestionably, Osgood has Hall of Fame numbers. Before he retired, he could be fourth on the NHL’s all-time wins list.

Defending Osgood
by Paul on 03/27/09 at 01:37 PM ET
Comments (4)
from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
A few days ago, Chris Osgood had dinner with an old friend and former teammate Mike Vernon. Their get-together - for food, beverage and conversation - is pertinent on many levels, as the Detroit Red Wings gear up to defend the Stanley Cup they won in comparatively easy fashion last spring.
Osgood recently passed Vernon for 11th place on the all-time goaltender wins list. Much was made of the fact that Martin Brodeur just moved past Patrick Roy at the top earlier in March, but Osgood, at age 36, with almost 300 fewer starts under his belt, is the only active goalie with even an outside chance to win 500 games. He could reel in another former teammate, Dominik Hasek, for 10th all-time before the end of the year, which would leave a former idol, Grant Fuhr, next in his sights at ninth overall with 403 career wins.

Osgood’s Numbers Don’t Lie
by Paul on 03/24/09 at 07:14 PM ET
Comments (2)
from Mark Spector of Sportsnet,
He is hockey’s Indian rubber lightning rod, so used to the criticism that he can wrap it in stats and send it flying back at you twice as fast.
Sure, Osgood stunk in Calgary Monday night, letting in three softies before getting the hook. But if you want to say that makes him suspect for the playoffs, you’d better check your numbers, pal.
“Last year I had a 1.55 (GAA) and a .930 saves percentage in the playoffs. That’s not a fluke. There is a reason why that happens,” the beleaguered Detroit goaltender said Tuesday morning in Edmonton, where he was — by some seven or eight minutes — the last Red Wing off the ice after an optional morning skate.

from Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun,
Those who thought Rodney Dangerfield had it tough, should try hanging out with Chris Osgood for a while.
Talk about a guy not getting any respect.
Despite winning three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings, Osgood has long been a favourite whipping boy and has always had his share of critics in town....
“It’s like in a lot of sports, there is that one position that takes a lot more heat than the rest of the players,” said Wings forward Kirk Maltby. “Here in Detroit, it’s the goaltenders. This is Chris’ second go-round here and it’s no different. But Ozzie has the perfect mentality to, not only be a goaltender, but to deal with criticism.
“He doesn’t get up or down. If he goes on a five-game winning streak, it’s not like he’s flying around here. He keeps a pretty even keel. It’s a long season and things are going to happen. But if you ask anybody in this dressing room, they’re going to tell you that we have all the confidence in the world that he will be ready come playoff time.”

Update from Wednesday’s practice: Wings goalie Chris Osgood did not practice due to a sore groin, coach Mike Babcock said. Babcock wasn’t sure about the extent of the injury, but it appears he might not even be able to serve as Ty Conklin’s back-up for Thursday’s game against San Jose.
Still waiting to hear what roster moves the team will make, whether it will be Jimmy Howard or Daniel Larsson recalled from Grand Rapids and whether they will waive a player to make room.

Wings Could Win In Different Ways
by Paul on 07/18/08 at 04:14 PM ET

from the Vernon Morning Star,
Supported by an awesome top-four defensive core and forwards who are committed to blocking shots and picking up their checks, Osgood noted one major difference from the ‘97 team he backstopped.
“They’re both great teams. Our team this year was just a tenacious team. We never really get rattled anymore. We played our game-plan and our style of play. This team could win games in different ways than other teams did. We could win in the trenches, 2-1 games, a tough, ugly game that we couldn’t before.
“That’s the difference. We were able to win the ugly games and the physical in-the-trenches games like maybe before we couldn’t. That’s why we won, we were capable of winning any way the other team wanted to play.”

from the Detroit Free Press,
Word spread quickly on the street that the Cup and Osgood were inside the Irish pub. Lines formed outside 821 Penniman Avenue to get a glimpse of North America’s oldest professional sports trophy, which is made of silver and nickel alloy.
And once you gained entrance inside O’Callaghan’s, it was pure bedlam.
“Oh, my God, I just drank out of the Stanley Cup,’’ said one female patron as she exited the bar.
While patrons poured their alcoholic beverages into the Cup for a chance at a celebratory swig, Osgood patiently accommodated, hunched over and standing on top of the bar, while pouring the bulky 34-pound trophy.

A Hockey Dad’s Relief
by Alanah McGinley on 06/11/08 at 08:53 AM ET

From Robin Collum in the Edmonton Journal, the words of John Osgood:
“I’m a hockey dad, so I know it’s a 60-minute game, and I knew that in Detroit in Game 5 when they scored in the last minute to extend the series.
“So in the last minute in Pittsburgh when it was 3-2 and everybody was up cheering, I was sitting. I was watching the screen, and it was 5.2 seconds left, and the puck was at centre ice, so I risked standing up and starting to celebrate,” he said. “Then, all of a sudden, it’s a two-one-one down low, Crosby’s got the backhand, Hossa’s got the puck and throws it through the crease.
“But it worked out and it was so emotional, but a sense of relief, too, that it was over. I think I was more nervous than Chris was.”

Backing Up Osgood
by Alanah McGinley on 06/10/08 at 08:57 AM ET

From Ansar Khan at MLive,
“I think Jimmy Howard is very close, if not there, to playing in the NHL,” Holland said. “I’m guessing Ozzie can play 50 games, maybe more. The 20-30 games that Chris doesn’t play in a parity league, those are key points. The hardest thing is, we’re trying to continue to be a Cup contender. How do you move young people into your team at a key position?”
Even if the Red Wings anticipate Howard being the backup, they are likely to pursue a low-priced, experienced goalie, in the wake of Dominik Hasek’s retirement.

From Helene St. James at the Free Press,
“I think what’s passed down from a lot of Hall of Famers that have played here, what is passed on to Nick Lidstrom and Drapes, and it will be passed on to the next guys, that is what made the difference for us in Game 6,” Osgood said. “I think that’s underestimated. Those guys told us how to handle this, how to handle it after we lost in overtime in Game 5, and now we can tell the Darren Helms and the Nik Kronwalls.
“I truly think we win because we’re more of a team, from the guys who retired to the guys who are still playing, than anywhere else. If Pavel Datsyuk is leading the league in scoring, Henrik Zetterberg is not mad about it. Steve Yzerman taught us all how to be team players and play for the other guy.”

Feel-Good Story of the Playoffs
by Alanah McGinley on 06/04/08 at 11:25 PM ET
Comments (0)
From the CP via TSN,
Undervalued. Underappreciated. Whatever, Osgood has always been considered merely an average NHL goalie, but he proved this spring that he’s more than that - although it seems, whatever he accomplishes, he’ll never convince everybody. That’s just the way it is with some athletes.
Some will say any goalie would look good behind the best defence in the NHL. With five-time Norris Trophy winner Nick Lidstrom anchoring the blue-line corps, and with Selke Trophy finalists Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk headlining a cast of forwards who forecheck and backcheck like no others, Osgood had to face an average of only about 22 shots a game.
Regardless, nobody can deny that Osgood is one of the feel-good stories of the post-season.

Q. Chris, could you talk about the mood of the team, maybe compare it as it is right now as to maybe immediately following the end of last night’s game?
CHRIS OSGOOD: We were all right after the game. We played hard. It was another great game. We just fell in the wrong end. That’s the way we looked at it. It was an end to end game. We had plenty of chances. It just didn’t happen. Sometimes it’s a game of bounces. It didn’t go our way, but we managed to fight back.
It didn’t happen. We have another opportunity tomorrow night, and that’s what we’re looking forward to.

Nobody felt the drastic shift in emotions Monday night worse than Osgood. He surrendered a power play goal midway through the third overtime, giving the gritty Penguins a 4-3 Game 5 victory.
“We wouldn’t be in this position if not for Ozzie,” said Brian Rafalski. “We had an opportunity to close it out, but it just proves that the game is 60 minutes long not 59 minutes long. It was one of those games that just didn’t want to end.”
Many came to Osgood’s defense.
He was nowhere to be found nearly an hour following the game.

Evolution of Chris Osgood
by Alanah McGinley on 06/02/08 at 02:06 PM ET

From Scott Burnside at ESPN,
“When you’re young, you tend to take things too personal, and it’s really not. You tend to exaggerate things,” Osgood told ESPN.com on the eve of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals, with Detroit holding a 3-1 series lead over Pittsburgh. “People write stuff, all people have different jobs when you’re in the finals and in the playoffs.
“You just have to have fun with it. I enjoy talking to the media more and talking to people, getting to know more people. Just have more fun with it because it’s not personal. Just everybody’s doing their job. It’s fun. ... It’s when I get on the ice, it’s just my time.”
The 35-year-old native of Peace River, Alberta, is not the same goaltender he was 10 years ago, when he helped Detroit win a Stanley Cup but carried a rather sizable chip on his shoulder. But who among us can claim to be the same person now as a decade ago?

11:50pm ET: Updated below with some comments from Chris Osgood added.
Q. Henrik, can you describe just in general your defense tonight and specifically your defense on the five‑on‑three?
HENRIK ZETTERBERG: That was the one thing we wanted to do a little better today. We want to have a little bit more poise in our own end.
We wanted to make some good decisions down there. I think we did. They got opportunity to tie up the game with the five‑on‑three in the end there.
We played good. We tried to keep them outside and tried to be in the shooting lanes. And when they got a puck through, Ozzie made a save.

Hasek Being a Good Teammate
by Alanah McGinley on 05/31/08 at 01:17 PM ET

From Pierre LeBrun at the CP via Yahoo!
Dominik Hasek will enter the Hall in his very first year of eligibility. But right now, he’s been reduced to Hall of Fame backup.
“That’s the way it is,” Hasek said. “It’s definitely disappointing, especially because I feel well. Like I’ve said many times, I’m ready to go any time. But the team is playing very well, we’re winning. Ozzie is doing a great job for us. So I understand the situation. I wish to be there but the coaches feel they better go with Ozzie.”
And that’s a pure, honest sentiment from the 43-year-old Czech star. It’s eating him up inside not to be in goal right now. But he also has tremendous respect for his goalie partner and has been nothing but the good teammate since losing his starting job 26 minutes into Game 4 of the opening round in Nashville.

Thursday with Osgood and Draper (Updated)

Update 1:11pm ET: Added another interview to this post. Below you’ll find words from Niklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg.
Q. Chris, this week all your teammates and coaches have been saying that your ability to bounce back from losses or bad goals and things like that is really one of your strengths. How do you do that so easily, and last night is a game that’s easier or tougher to get past?
CHRIS OSGOOD: It’s over. We didn’t come into the series thinking we were going to win four straight. We were hoping to. But to say we expected it to be a hard series would be right on. Just play the game tomorrow. I mean, the next day, just keep doing the same thing as I’ve been doing. That’s about it. I haven’t really put any thought into last night, this morning.
I thought it was a real good game. Both teams played real well, and somebody has to win and lose every night. We were on the short end last night.
Q. If I could get you both to comment on this. Mike Babcock came in this morning, the morning after a loss, jovial with the media and joking. Can you talk about the way he kind of sets the mood for the team and kind of understands when to go at you and when to give you your space and how his feelings for that kind of thing?

The Normal Goalie

from Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
Chris Osgood doesn’t like to talk about himself.
And he’ll be the first to tell you that.
“I’m just a quiet guy. I don’t like bragging about myself. Save that for another day,” said the Detroit goaltender, who, if he keeps making all the saves, won’t have a lot more days to wait this postseason.

Osgood Just Wins
by Paul on 05/22/08 at 07:15 AM ET

from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star,
Chris Osgood has been labelled the worst goaltender to ever win a Stanley Cup.
Now, he could conceivably be the worst to ever win two.
Before we all get all weepy over Osgood’s legacy, or suggest he’s been unfairly criticized and evaluated over the course of his career, a little historical review would be in order.

Playoff Justice
by Alanah McGinley on 05/12/08 at 04:38 PM ET

From Al Strachan at FoxSports,
This is NHL playoff justice. Anything short of an ax-murder is likely to be ignored. But don’t blame the current dispenser of justice, Colin Campbell. It has always been this way.
There has been the occasional exception. When Gary Bettman was in the first few months of his regime, he didn’t understand hockey tradition very well (insert your own cheap shot here) and seeing Dale Hunter deliver a cross-check to Pierre Turgeon after a goal, decided that Hunter had earned himself a 21-game suspension.
But since then, the NHL has followed a firm policy. First of all, suspensions, when they occur, are much shorter than they would be for a similar incident in the regular season. Secondly, every effort is made to keep the stars in the game.
At one time, the league used to defer playoff suspensions. One of the more notorious examples was the vicious slash that Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall delivered to Edmonton’s Kent Nilsson in the 1987 Stanley Cup finals.

No Suspensions For Ribeiro & Osgood
by Paul on 05/11/08 at 07:02 PM ET

via Mike Heika of Dallas Stars Blog at the Dallas Morning News,
The league just confirmed.
There are some fines involved, but both Ribeiro and Osgood are good to go for Game 3.
That’s important for the Stars, particularly if Lehtinen is hurt and can’t play.
Ribeiro was quite feisty today, so it will be interesting if he transfers that energy to the ice.

All Osgood Does Is Win
by Paul on 05/11/08 at 02:06 PM ET

from John Kreiser of NHL.com,
Chris Osgood doesn’t have the flash of Detroit teammate Dominik Hasek. He’s not a spectacular puck-handler like Dallas’ Marty Turco, his rival in the Western Conference Finals. He’s a solid goaltender who doesn’t do anything extraordinarily well.
Except win.
Few goaltenders in any era can match Osgood when it comes to winning games. He was 27-9-4 during the regular season while splitting time with Hasek, and improved to 8-0 during the playoffs with a 2-1 victory over the Stars Saturday night in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.

Questions for Lidstrom, Franzen and Osgood
by Alanah McGinley on 05/07/08 at 02:49 PM ET

A short Q&A session with the media, talking with Detroit Red Wings players Nicklas Lidstrom, Johan Franzen and Chris Osgood.
Q. Chris, 6?0 an incredible run here in the playoffs. Where do you point the finger? Why have you had such success?
CHRIS OSGOOD: In two parts I’ll answer. Personally, just doing the right things in practice with Jim Bedard and staying ready. Even when I wasn’t playing, I felt confident, even before I went in that I could do the job. Just being ready so I wasn’t standing there doubting myself whatsoever.

Osgood Rebuilds His Game
by Paul on 04/28/08 at 07:53 PM ET

from Bob Duff of the Windsor Star via the National Post,
Windsor native Stan Matwijiw operates the Bandits Goalie School in Novi, Mich., and back in 2004, was charged with the task of deconstructing Osgood.
It proved to be a reclamation project of Humpty Dumpty-like proportions.
“I got a call from Chris the second week of August the summer before the (2004-05) lockout,” Matwijiw recalled. “When he first came to me, I was a little unsure about what he was looking for.
“This was an NHL goalie with 11 years of experience. I didn’t know whether he was just looking to fine-tune some things, so we talked about it. To my surprise, he said, ‘I want you to completely tear my game apart and rebuild it.”

Osgood Remains Low-Keyed
by Paul on 04/25/08 at 10:01 PM ET

from Michael Traikos of the National Post,
Chris Chelios is buddies with Hollywood actors, Henrik Zetterberg is dating a Swedish pop star and Darren McCarty used to have a red Mohawk and front a punk band. But everything about 5-foot-10 netminder from Peace River, Alta., is purposefully low-key.
From his family-friendly SUV to his post-hockey dream job as a bullpen catcher for the Detroit Tigers, Osgood would rather be in the shadows than the spotlight. Perhaps that is why, despite putting up Hall of Fame-worthy numbers, the 14-year veteran is often considered to be a career backup rather than one of the game’s elite.
“Some guys crave the attention, love to be always noticed when they go out and do certain things,” said Osgood. “I don’t really like that. I just want to go about my business and play.”

Ozzie Comes Up Big

from Dave Waddell of the Windsor Star,
In the roiling cauldron that was Joe Louis Arena, where fans were alternating covering their eyes or leaping to their feet, Detroit goalie Chris Osgood was oblivious to the stress.
His so-called fun peaked with 8.4 seconds left in game when John-Michael Liles had the game on his stick and 20,066 fans had their hearts in their mouths.
However, Osgood plucked the puck and a victory out of mid-air to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Thursday in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal at Joe Louis Arena.

Wings Make Goalie Change
by Alanah McGinley on 04/17/08 at 02:32 PM ET

From the AP via the Mercury News,
Dominik Hasek is out, and Chris Osgood is in.
Hasek said Thursday that Red Wings coach Mike Babcock told him Osgood will start Game 5 against the Nashville Predators, who won two straight at home to even the first-round series 2-all.
From Red Wings Corner:
Asked whether Osgood will be the Red Wings’ netminder for the remainder of the playoffs, coach Mike Babcock laughed and said, “Just win baby.”

They Used To Be Backups
by Paul on 01/10/08 at 08:34 AM ET

from Ross McKeon of Yahoo,
It’s interesting to see what has happened this week to Manny Legace and Chris Osgood, a couple of goalies the Detroit Red Wings thought were nothing more than back-ups not long ago.
Legace was named the league’s No. 1 star for the week ending Jan. 6. The St. Louis Blues’ No. 1 man in the net has pretty much been spot on all season, despite playing at less than 100 percent.
Osgood has played so well that not only has he emerged as the go-to guy in Detroit, but the Red Wings awarded the 35-year-old with a three-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Holy Hasek, what’s going on here?

Who’s #1 In Detroit

from the Toronto Sun,
Chris Osgood, it appears, has supplanted Dominik Hasek as the No. 1 goalie in Motown, though the 42-year-old Hasek won’t concede as much.
“There are 60 games left and I know the way I practise and the way I see the puck, I know I’ll play better,” Hasek said. “I want to see more determination out of myself. I haven’t done my job.”

No Change Needed For Red Wings
by Paul on 11/15/07 at 08:27 AM ET
Comments (1)
from Bruce MacLeod of the Macomb Daily,
Hasek described his play after Tuesday’s loss in St. Louis as “not being able to get in the game.” He doesn’t see action for minutes, then lets in a quickie ... which is another way to say that he’s playing like a No. 2 goalie. Osgood plays behind the same tight defense and manages just fine.
Tuesday’s game was a good example of the difference between the two netminders. Hasek was pulled after allowing four goals, including two off big rebounds. Osgood came in and looked a lot sharper.
All of that said, it would seem obvious that the correct thing to do would be to make a change, to play Osgood more often and give the Red Wings a better chance to win.
But not doing anything right now would be better than doing something like making a change.
