Brule Finding His Game In Edmonton

from Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun,
There was a time when it was uncertain whether Gilbert Brule would be able to find a place on the Edmonton Oilers roster.
Now seven games into the regular season, there’s little doubt the local product is here to stay....
Now Brule is showing off the offensive ability that made him the sixth overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The two goals last night give him seven points on the season.
“I think each game I’m feeling more confident and comfortable out there, no matter who I’m playing with,” Brule said. “I think I just have to play my game and be more responsible in my own end of the ice.
“I think the coaches are putting a lot of trust in me and I’m playing a lot. That’s what I need, I thrive off that and I just want to get going, get in the game and that’s what helps me.”

Tough Time To Break A Hand

from Ian MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun,
The good news is Jannik Hansen won the fight. The bad news is he could be lost for 4-6 weeks or longer with a broken hand.
The worst part is the regular season starts Thursday.
Hansen’s right hand was grotesquely misshapen after a fight with former Vancouver Giants’ junior Gilbert Brule during the Canucks’ 5-4 pre-season overtime loss Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers.
“Obviously, it’s not very good timing,” Hansen said. “It’s very swollen. I’m not quite sure how bad it is.”
continued and watch the fight below…

Brule Just Wants A Chance To Show His Stuff

from Robin Brownlee at MetroNews,
Of all the questionable decisions the Edmonton Oilers have made with players this season, the handling of Gilbert Brule ranks up there in terms of head-scratchers.
Brule played his 152nd NHL game against St. Louis last night, meaning he is just eight games from having to clear waivers to move between Edmonton’s roster and the minors.
You’d think, seeing as Edmonton traded Raffi Torres to Columbus to get the talented speedster, there’d be some sense of urgency in wanting to assess Brule before that 160-game mark to see if he’s in the plans.
But there was Brule last night, stuck on the fourth line with Kyle Brodziak and Steve MacIntyre while Liam Reddox played alongside Dustin Penner and Shawn Horcoff.

Brule Suspended In The AHL, Playing In The NHL
by Paul on 12/06/08 at 06:36 PM ET

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
Gilbert Brule is out on parole.
The Edmonton Oilers farmhand was slapped with a four-game American Hockey League suspension for a hit from behind on Lowell defenceman Matthew Corrente on Wednesday, but he’ll be able to play tonight against the San Jose Sharks after his call-up from the AHL’s Springfield Falcons.
Suspensions from the AHL don’t necessarily travel to the NHL, so Brule will play his first Oilers game, likely on the fourth line, after he was summoned Friday when Sam Gagner came down with concussion-like symptoms after taking an elbow in the head in a Dallas Stars’ game Wednesday.
“It’s up to the league whether they will allow a player to play if he has a suspension somewhere else,” said Oilers assistant GM Rick Olczyk, indicating it’s a case-by-case basis.
