Hanlon In Finland

from Shawn P. Roarke of NHL.com,
Europe, however, proved to be a completely different proposition. He became interested the minute he heard from Jokerit, soon after Doug Shedden left the Finnish club to take a coaching job in Switzerland.
“I thought Europe would be a real good option,” Hanlon told NHL.com.
But he wasn’t sure his family would agree. Hanlon was at a stage in life where their input was as important, if not more so, than his professional ambition.
“There was a discussion and a lot of it was family driven,” Hanlon said. “We felt a 56-game season and busing to most road games was a good situation. At this stage, we want to be together as a family. So we were ready to give this a try.”

Japers’ Rink points out an interview with Sergei Kostitsyn, where he takes a shot at Glen Hanlon today:
Q. Why do you have a special knack against Washington, scoring every third of your goals in the regular season?
A. I don’t know, it just happens. Although it’s a pity that [Glen Hanlon] left Washington. I would have scored not three but six against them. Let him see who is “too young for the national team.”
JP’s response: “Total pwnage.” The rest of the interview is here—Kostitsyn is irrepressible throughout.
Q: Do you remember the most original question American journalists have asked you?
A. You should not expect originality from them. Every other time they ask the same: “How do you like to play with your brother?”

Coaching Change For Caps Will Paint A Clearer Picture

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
Afterwards, Hanlon conceded that he’d never undergone anything quite like the current meltdown at any other stage in his career, as a player or a coach, and sounded as if he were out of answers. So Boudreau gets the first chance to pick up the pieces and in a month or so, McPhee will start to get his answers: If this were really a coaching issue, or if the team that he’s rebuilding isn’t quite ready to turn the corner just yet.

Caps Looking For Scoring

from the Washington Post,
“The overriding theme for us is [a] lack of scoring,” Hanlon said. “That’s the main thing. Defensively we’ve made as big an improvement as any team. We don’t have those chaotic games where we’re running around. But there’s a price for scoring goals and, at times, we’re not doing that.”
Added veteran goaltender Olie Kolzig: “You have to first get ugly goals to get things going. You have to get people in front and throw pucks at the net....”
