Sabres Sign Pominville

The Sabres have signed forward Jason Pominville to a multi-year contract extension. The 26-year old was entering the final year of his contract, but will now be with the team long-term. Financial terms were not given.

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension with right winger Jason Pominville, keeping him in Buffalo through the 2013-14 season.

Pominville Wants A Deal Done Soon

WGR has learned that Jason Pominville has set a Friday deadline to get a deal done with the Sabres. Agent Norman DuPoint said he and Pominville have agreed they do not want negotiations going on once Pominville gets to camp.

Pominville Hopeful Regarding New Contract

The captain remained hopeful he will have a new contract before the official start of camp. His agent and the Sabres have been talking long-term extensions.

“You never know with that,” Pominville said. “It’s going well until the deal’s done. We’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully it’ll be done before. I’m just leaving [my agent] to do his thing.”

Although the sides would like to reach an agreement, there is no urgency. Pominville is under contract for this season and then becomes a restricted free agent.

What is the weirdest thing someone has said on the ice?

“I’ve been pretty lucky with that. There really hasn’t been anything that has caught my attention.

“But probably the funniest thing I’ve heard on the ice was when I was in the American Hockey League and had long hair. Somebody yelled something at me like, ‘get a haircut poodle’ or ‘nice haircut poodle.’

The Answer Man

There’s just something about Jason Pominville that draws fans near. Whether it’s his personality, his last name or his innocent look, people just feel they can ask him anything. Then they do.

Do you think Britney Spears is crazy? How come you’re French Canadian but don’t have an accent? Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

Most players would say, “Come on, seriously?” Then again, most players wouldn’t get those questions. There’s just something about the Buffalo Sabres captain that makes everybody treat him like the guy next door.
