Wilson Trying To Wake-Up Schenn

from Jeff Blair of the Globe and Mail,
The first thing Ron Wilson wants to do Friday night at the United Center is “pull the plug on the organ,” then get rid of the national anthem singer. Failing that, Wilson would settle for having Luke Schenn plugged in.
Schenn was Wilson’s fair-haired boy last season. That’s not the case any more. In a published report Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach was blunt about what awaits Schenn if he doesn’t truck out some truculence.
“Hopefully, it doesn’t come to him sitting out games to get a message across,” Wilson intoned.

Frustrated In Toronto

from Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun,
The angry glare in Luke Schenn’s eyes spoke volumes when a reporter brought up his third-period stint on the bench Saturday night.
No, there wasn’t an injury behind the move and yes, he was humiliated about playing just three shifts in the Leafs’ seventh defeat (0-6-1). Welcome to Ron Wilson Roulette, where any Leaf might feel those splinters until this club wins a game.
“No one has stepped up and when you make a mistake, that’s the way it’s going to be,” Schenn said yesterday at the MasterCard Centre. “They’re going with the guys playing the best.”
That Schenn would be singled out shows how far the Leafs have slipped. Last season’s NHL’s all-rookie team member was among the most trustworthy in his own zone.
This year, first with veteran partner Francois Beauchemin and then others, Schenn has the same malaise that’s gripped the dressing room. Toronto has given up a league-high 28 goals, while four defencemen, Schenn, Tomas Kaberle, Mike Komisarek and Beauchemin are a combined minus-17.

From TSN:
Penguins centre Tyler Kennedy has been suspended one game by the NHL for initiating a fight with the Maple Leafs’ Luke Schenn on Saturday night.
The Leafs had asked the league to review the incident, saying that Kennedy had come off to the Pens’ bench to start an altercation with the young defenceman.

Leafs Lose Game & Players

from Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star,
There isn’t much the Leafs can do now but tend to their injured stars and regroup.
Another frustrating night – one in which they couldn’t dial up their intensity until it was too late – was compounded by injuries to rookie defenceman Luke Schenn and talented forward Niklas Hagman.
Schenn’s loss will be significant – an estimated two weeks with a suspected left leg injury suffered in a collision with Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, who certainly had his wrecking ball out last night in the way he was hitting Leaf players.
Hagman took a knee to the head and, while he felt better by the end of the night, he left the game after one shift in the second period feeling “groggy.”
