from Selena Hernandez of CBS11,
Dallas Stars center Mike Ribeiro was arrested in Plano on Sunday night for public intoxication. The 30-year-old hockey player and three others were taken into custody around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, according Rick McDonald with the Plano Police Department.
McDonald explained that Ribeiro was dining at Rasushi, located in the 7500 block of Lone Star Drive, with 39-year-old Darcy Lewis and 39-year-old Tammy Williams, who is Ribeiro’s wife. The two women got into an altercation with other patrons at the restaurant and an off-duty officer who was working there intervened.

Mike Ribeiro Out 4-6 Weeks

Frisco, Tex.—The Dallas Stars announced today that center Mike Ribeiro has been placed on injured reserve and is expected to be out four-to-six weeks due to a throat contusion suffered on Wednesday night at the New York Rangers.
Ribeiro underwent a procedure at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in Manhattan last night to repair the contusion, which included a tracheotomy. He is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days before returning to Dallas.
Ribeiro suffered the injury when he was hit in the neck by the stick of Rangers forward Chris Higgins at 15:32 of the second period last night. Higgins was assessed a two-minute minor penalty on the play.

Ott Coming Into His Own
by Alanah McGinley on 02/07/09 at 12:01 PM ET

From Richard Durrett at the Dallas Stars Blog:
Ott bangs the boards, fights for loose pucks, gets in front of the net and has shown a deft scoring touch too. He’s becoming more and more like a Brenden Morrow clone by the game. Ott had a goal and two assists on Friday, extending his career-long point streak to seven games (4 goals, 6 assists). He also has at least one point in nine of the last 11 games.
“If I can be a quarter of the player Brenden is, that’s great,” Ott said. “He’s a great leader and a team guy and I’d love to have him back in this dressing room. I’m just trying to play hard hockey and tha’ts something Brenden brings on a nightly basis and he’s a mentor to me so I want to keep playing that way.”
Ott has said for years that he was more than just a physical player. Now he’s proving it.

Playoff Justice
by Alanah McGinley on 05/12/08 at 03:38 PM ET

From Al Strachan at FoxSports,
This is NHL playoff justice. Anything short of an ax-murder is likely to be ignored. But don’t blame the current dispenser of justice, Colin Campbell. It has always been this way.
There has been the occasional exception. When Gary Bettman was in the first few months of his regime, he didn’t understand hockey tradition very well (insert your own cheap shot here) and seeing Dale Hunter deliver a cross-check to Pierre Turgeon after a goal, decided that Hunter had earned himself a 21-game suspension.
But since then, the NHL has followed a firm policy. First of all, suspensions, when they occur, are much shorter than they would be for a similar incident in the regular season. Secondly, every effort is made to keep the stars in the game.
At one time, the league used to defer playoff suspensions. One of the more notorious examples was the vicious slash that Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall delivered to Edmonton’s Kent Nilsson in the 1987 Stanley Cup finals.

No Suspensions For Ribeiro & Osgood
by Paul on 05/11/08 at 06:02 PM ET

via Mike Heika of Dallas Stars Blog at the Dallas Morning News,
The league just confirmed.
There are some fines involved, but both Ribeiro and Osgood are good to go for Game 3.
That’s important for the Stars, particularly if Lehtinen is hurt and can’t play.
Ribeiro was quite feisty today, so it will be interesting if he transfers that energy to the ice.

Modano’s Uncertain Future
by Alanah McGinley on 01/09/08 at 12:49 PM ET

From Mike Heika at The Dallas Morning News,
The face of the franchise has led the team since the Minnesota North Stars drafted him first overall in 1988. But with Ribeiro, 27, signed up at $5 million a year, the career of Modano, 37, appears in flux.
“To tell you the truth, I’m not really sure what my role on the team is,” Modano said Tuesday before the Stars left town for tonight’s game in Chicago. “I think it’s changing.”
The Stars have pondered Modano’s transition for a few seasons. He could follow the pattern of Joe Niuewendyk and spend the last two years of his contract as the No. 2 center – complete with a gold watch and Conn Smythe Trophy.
But there’s a problem with that scenario.
