from Jason Botchford of the White Towel,
Pavol Demitra has hit another road block on his way to recovery from offseason shoulder surgery.
Suffering pain and unable to get his range of motion back, Demitra had a shoulder arthroscopy this week. The Canucks said it was not to repair another tear. Demitra had two tears repaired on his rotator cuff in May. Then, the prognosis was he would be out four-to-six months.
He is now out indefinitely, the team said.

After Surgery, Demitra’s Shoulder Is Still Full Of Pain
by Paul on 10/13/09 at 07:46 AM ET

via Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,
“Obviously, it’s not getting better,” said Demitra.
“They’re going to decide what’s next for me and I’ll see the doctor on Tuesday. There’s a lot of pain in the shoulder.”
Canucks general manger Mike Gillis said the next step in rehab will be to see how the shoulder reacts “when it settles down.”
When that will be, nobody really seems to know.

Demitra Could Help Canucks, But Recovery From Surgery Going Slow
by Paul on 10/11/09 at 05:59 PM ET

from Matthew Sekeres of the Globe and Mail,
Head coach Alain Vigneault said Sunday that Demitra’s recovery from off-season shoulder surgery “is not going as well as we had planned.” Demitra was supposed to miss at least the first three weeks of the season, but it now sounds like he’ll be gone even longer.
“It’s not going as quick as he wanted,” Vigneault said.
The injuries to Sedin and Demitra have left the Canucks looking fairly impotent on paper. Steve Bernier and Mason Raymond, who started as third-line wingers, have been bumped into the top six.

Schneider & Demitra On LTIR
by Paul on 09/24/09 at 02:30 PM ET

from Ben Kuzma of the White Towel at the Vancouver Province,
With Mathieu Schneider and Pavol Demitra going on long-term injury reserve, the Vancouver Canucks have found wiggle room under the salary cap ceiling.
Schneider confirmed Thursday morning that offseason shoulder surgery will keep the 40-year-old defenceman from opening the regular season on Oct. 1 at Calgary. Although he has been practising, Schneider has not been able to take contact. The news is worse for Demitra, who hasn’t even healed enough to practice. Offseason shoulder surgery could keep the winger sidelined until November.

Demitra Gets Wake-Up Call
by Paul on 01/15/09 at 10:21 AM ET

from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,
Demitra scored once, fired three shots and finished with a plus-1 effort in the 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. He did it with a bruised ego and an effort that has often gone missing with just three goals and six points in his last 14 outings. That’s not what the Canucks coughed up $8 million US for in a two-year deal for the unrestricted free agent. Thats why he started on the fourth line with Darcy Hordichuk and Ryan Johnson against the Devils. And maybe that was the big wake-up call Demitra has needed—even though he was peeved at the process.
“Obviously, I wasn’t happy about it,” said Demitra. “But you have to get focus, get mad and be ready to play. Mats was the reason I came here, because of the rumours during the summer that he was going to be here. All my life, I was playing with one guy all year, and Mats is going to make hockey so easy.
“He has shown for many years that he’s a top player in the league because he’s got that big body and he’s tough to get a puck from. He has great vision and can find you—so it’s going to be nice to play with a guy like that. And you just need to get chemistry going....”

Vigneault Getting To The Frustration Point
by Paul on 01/12/09 at 09:04 PM ET

from Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun,
In Monday’s practice, Demitra was dropped to the fourth line where he skated with Ryan Johnson and Darcy Hordichuk. By the sound of Vigneault, it seems there’s a good chance Demitra could draw fourth-line duty tonight when the Canucks play host to the New Jersey Devils.
“He has been given quite a few minutes here and I really gave him quite a few chances,” Vigneault said. “For me, if you are not getting points but you are getting scoring chances, that’s a different thing. There’s not much going on there right now.”
Vigneault is particularly disturbed by his team’s play at home. After weathering a difficult start, which saw the Canucks play 19 of their first 30 games on the road, most expected Vancouver to make hay at home.

Demitra Says Wild Should Just Sign Gaborik
by Paul on 11/08/08 at 06:14 PM ET

from Michael Russo of Russo’s Rants,
Talked with Pavol Demitra this morning. He’s close to returning from a rib injury but won’t play tonight. He was disappointed. He was very friendly and said Jacques Lemaire treated him incredibly. He said his biggest frustration in Minnesota was not playing center, but being switched from line to line. He was also good talking about Marian Gaborik’s situation and said the Wild should just sign him.

Demitra Thinking Offense In Vancouver
by Paul on 09/09/08 at 07:12 AM ET

from Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun,
The slick Slovak was rookie GM Mike Gillis’s highest profile free-agent signing in July and inked a two-year deal worth $8 million.
He will be expected to fill the offensive void created by captain Markus Naslund’s departure.
Demitra is not coming off a stellar season himself. He had only 15 goals in Jacques Lemaire’s suffocating Minnesota Wild system. It was one of the reasons he opted to move on.
The Canucks, of course, have not been an offensive juggernaut since head coach Alain Vigneault’s arrival in 2006 but Demitra has put his faith in Gillis, his former agent.
“Obviously I was working with Mike Gillis for many years and I know what he’s like,” said the 33-year-old forward. “I’m hoping they’re going to try and change it here and play a little more offence.”

Not The Answer
by Paul on 07/14/08 at 08:04 AM ET

from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,
If Pavol Demitra is the answer for the Vancouver Canucks then the question was a lot easier than anyone suspected.
Demitra, at best, is a complementary offensive player. He turns 34 in November. Over his last four NHL seasons he’s recorded 58, 62, 64 and 54 points and he’s six years removed from his most productive campaign with the Blues.
This doesn’t mean he isn’t a useful player. But, as of this writing, the Canucks’ offseason rebuilding plan is based on Demitra and Steve Bernier.

Vancouver Sign Demitra
by Paul on 07/10/08 at 12:48 PM ET

from the Vancouver Canucks,
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis today announced that the team has signed free agent forward Pavol Demitra. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Throughout his NHL career, Pavol has proven himself to be an offensive contributor where ever he has played,” said Gillis. “Pavol is a strong two-way hockey player with excellent quickness and finish. His play making abilities will be an asset on our power-play and make him a great addition to our top six forwards.”

Canucks Still Talking Contract With Demitra
by Paul on 07/10/08 at 07:15 AM ET

from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,
I’m still very good friends with Pavol and talk to him all the time,” (Geoff) Courtnall, a former Canuck, said Wednesday from Victoria. “I hadn’t seen him in a year and he came out before he went back to Slovakia.
“We only had one day and night together and he told me he loves coming to Vancouver. I told him if the Canucks are one of the teams that comes around July 1 [free agency], you should definitely think of playing there.”
Demitra has done just that.
Not only has the former Minnesota Wild forward stated that the Canucks top his wish list—a Slovakian newspaper has reported he’s close to signing a three-year, $12-million-US deal—general manager Mike Gillis has acknowledged contract dialogue with his former client.
The only problem might be term, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Gillis is trying to get Demitra to commit to two years instead of three.

Report- Demitra Will Play For Vancouver
by Paul on 07/08/08 at 02:59 PM ET

from TV JOJ and translated by KK friend Roman,
Pavol Demitra will play for Vancouver next 3 yrs. His contract is 4mil per season.
Vancouver contacted Demitra shortly after he said he would not play in Minnesota next season. There is speculation in overseas media that the Canucks contacted him before July 1 which is prohibited. Now it is up to NHL if there will be some investigation.
added 3:34pm, from TSN,
In an interview with Vancouver radio station CKNW, free agent forward Pavol Demitra confirmed that the Canucks are his preferred destination and expects to sign with the team.
“I think there is a good chance,” Demitra said.
“[Current Canucks GM Mike Gillis] used to be my agent for a long time. We are very good friends. I am very interested in playing for [the Canucks].”

Vancouver GM Mike Gillis used to be Pavol Demitra’s agent, but that doesn’t mean the free-agent forward is automatically headed to the Canucks. His current agent, Keator, said it’s far from a done deal. “If Pavol Demitra was going to Vancouver, then why did he hire me?” asked Keator. “It’s ridiculous.” That said, Vancouver would be a nice fit for the 33-year-old right winger.

Wild Shuffling with Demitra Back
by Alanah McGinley on 11/28/07 at 05:53 PM ET

From Russo’s Rants at the Star Tribune,
Pavol Demitra is definitely playing. Matt Foy is coming out for him. Second straight time he’s been scratched after a two-point game. Foster skated today and hopes to practice tomorrow. Nummelin and Harding skated but won’t play.
Demitra has officially been activated for tonight’s game. Harding has been placed on injured reserve to make room for him. This is becoming a shuffling game.
Leading my notebook with the bad luck the Wild has had with facial injuries. Three guys wore full cages today. I said to Jacques it looks like college, and he said, “like a kennel.”

Gaborik & Demitra Out Again
by Paul on 11/05/07 at 04:40 PM ET
Comments (0)
via the Pioneer Press,
The Minnesota Wild will throw another depleted lineup on the ice tonight when they play host to the Edmonton Oilers. Marian Gaborik is out, Pavol Demitra is out and Wes Walz hasn’t come back.
Gaborik and Demitra have groin injuries; Walz hasn’t returned from an excused, and unexplained, absence and will miss his third game.
Gaborik played the past two games and played well, scoring five points, including a two-goal game in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Calgary. He sat out practice Sunday, but reporters were told he was simply given the day off.
Asked if something changed between Sunday and this morning, when Gaborik was pulled from practice, coach Jacques Lemaire said, “Something changed a bit.”

From Michael Russo at his blog on the Star-Tribune,
Pavol Demitra was injured nine minutes into the third when he strained his right hip on a shorthanded rush with Marian Gaborik. Demitra will be evaluated tomorrow and is day-to-day “for now,” said assistant GM Tom Lynn.
*At 7-0-1, the Wild is off to their best start in franchise history and remain the only team unbeaten in regulation this season.
