Ray Emery Signs Deal with Chicago

From Matt Nichol (whom Tim Sassone notes is Emery’s trainer):

Congrats to Ray Emery on signing with Chicago!!. #perserverance. #neversaydie

Update 4:12pm ET: From Pierre LeBrun

This probably out there but Emery deal in Chicago is one-year, $600,000

Update 4:34pm ET: From Adam Jahns at the Sun-Times

“We’re in the fortunate position to have to make a difficult decision on two netminders that impressed throughout our entire training camp,” general manger Stan Bowman said in a statement. “Having both Ray Emery and Alexander Salak as a part of the Chicago Blackhawks organization makes us stronger in both the short-term and long-term.”

According to the numbers, Salak outperformed Emery this preseason, recording a 1.94 goals against average compared to Emery’s 4.54. But it was always thought that the Hawks preferred to have an experienced goalie behind Crawford, who is entering his first full year as a starter.

Ray Emery’s Humbling Experience

From Craig Custance at Sporting News:

Based on what Ruch saw when he opened up Emery’s hip, Emery had about three or four months left before it collapsed. In roughly 180 days, his hockey career would have been over for good.

That realization changes a man.

There may have been times early in Emery’s career that it looked like he was trying to blow it all on his own. Suddenly, he’s desperate to save it.

“It brings you back down to earth,” Emery said. “It seemed like in the past –- you had a window and most guys, you’re thinking ‘Until I’m 33 or 35 I’m going to be in pretty good shape and my body is at my disposal.’”

Emery’s window—temporarily, at least—slammed shut.  “It makes you seem a lot more human,” he said. “That’s a humbling experience.”

Does Emery Have A Shot In Chicago?

from Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago,

News from ESPN.com’s Scott Burnside that the Chicago Blackhawks are bringing in goalie Ray Emery for a tryout during training camp shouldn’t come as a shock.

After all the Hawks don’t have a true veteran netminder in the organization and are relying on an unproven rookie to back-up second year man Corey Crawford. It simply makes sense on several levels.

Having said that, did the Hawks lure Alexander Salak over from Europe with a one-way, two-year deal to start in Rockford or to back-up Crawford right away?

The Ducks Goaltending Situation

from Eric Stephens of the OC Register,

Murray said he spoke with Hiller last week and the two agreed that he should return the ice and take shots in goal when he appears at former Ducks goaltending coach Francois Allaire’s camp in Switzerland.

“He’s fine,” Murray said. “He’s in good spirits. We talked about a couple of things. He’ll be skating on the ice sometime around the middle of July.

“He’ll be doing a camp early in the week and then skate with some pros after that.”

Hiller’s uncertain situation apparently will not play a role in re-signing Ray Emery as Murray indicated that he has not spoken with Emery’s agent, J.P. Barry. Barry did not return messages left by the Register.

Murray might not be making much of an effort to bring back Emery, who came back from a serious knee injury last season and became the Ducks’ lead goalie down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Emery, a an unrestricted free agent on July 1, figures to be seeking a one-way NHL contract with a team that will give him an opportunity to start after going 7-2 with a 2.28 goals-against average in nine regular-season starts.

Emery Not Ready To Play

from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog,

Ray Emery‘s readiness for game action is still in question as he is still trying to recover from a lower-body injury, putting into question his availability for a potential Game 1 start against Nashville on Wednesday night.

Emery hasn’t played since he had to pull himself out midway through a start against San Jose last week. On Monday, he said that he didn’t think he would be able to play if the Ducks had a game.

“I’ve got a little ways to go,” Emery said. ”As soon as I feel comfortable and I can contribute, I’ll make myself available to play.”

Emery skated briefly before the club’s practice and then had a longer session afterward, where he took shots in goal. “We’ll see if he has a decent day,” Coach Randy Carlyle said. ”He’ll probably skate with our team tomorrow if so.”

Emery Injury Update

from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,

Emery pulled himself out midway through the second period as the Ducks were about to go on a two-man advantage while holding a 3-1 lead. The immediate concern is whether the injury is related to the major hip surgery he underwent last April in order to resurrect his career.

“I don’t think so,” said Emery, who is 7-2 with a 2.28 goals-against average in nine starts.

Emery said he felt some tightness at the start of the second period and realized that it was best he not try to play through it with the team holding a two-goal lead.

“I felt a little bit of something a bit funny and kind of tried it out for five to 10 minutes there,” he said. ”I kind of told them that I thought it’d probably be best if I got out of there and took care of myself.”

Ducks coach Randy Carlyle didn’t elaborate on the source of Emery’s injury. Dan Ellis finished the game as Emery returned the bench later in the second after a spell in the training room.

Emery’s Return Just Short Of A Miracle

from Jeff Miller of the OC Register,

It is stunning, really, how one of the greatest stories in the NHL — no, one of the greatest stories in sports — has gone under-reported.

Today, of all times in our history. In the age of Twitter and YouTube. When Torii Hunter makes Sports Illustrated for his references to flatulence. When Tiger Woods isn’t so much a weekly struggling athlete as he is a daily gossiping update.

But that’s the NHL, and that’s the NHL in America and especially the NHL in Southern California.

The most improbable tale of this unlikely Ducks season, a story more inspirational than Teemu Selanne’s brilliance on 40-year-old legs, more amazing than Corey Perry’s bolt to sudden stardom remains tucked behind a mask, existing day-to-day under unassuming quiet, lost in the shadow of team.

“It is somewhat of a, I don’t know if you want to say miracle, but it’s something that’s never happened before,” Coach Randy Carlyle says. “It’s a great story and one the individual should be recognized for because it’s something no other athlete has done.”

He has made history, that’s all — sports history, medical history, human-interest history.

The fact Ray Emery is playing professional ice hockey again is nothing short of extraordinary.

Ray Emery Signs With Ducks

via Darren Dreger tweet,

Emery signs 2-way contract with Anaheim. Will be on waivers at noon. $500,000 (NHL). $105,000 (AhL).

added 11:10am,

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed goaltender Ray Emery to a one-year, two-way contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

“Ray Emery has been a solid NHL netminder for several years and is only 28 years old,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “We are going to give him a chance to go to Syracuse and establish himself again. He’s worked hard to get back into shape and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do.”

Emery Ready To Play

from Eric Stephens of the OC Register,

The Ducks are among “three or four”  teams that are looking into acquiring veteran goaltender Ray Emery, his agent confirmed to the Register late Thursday afternoon.

Calgary-based agent J.P. Barry said he’s been in contact with the Ducks about Emery as they’re seeking a reliable insurance goalie in case either or both Jonas Hiller and Curtis McElhinney get hurt down the stretch.

“The Ducks are one of the teams that I’ve been talking to,” Barry said. ”It goes both ways, right? I’m looking for a position for Ray. There’s some teams that have been receptive to discussing him and they’re one of them.”...

All signs point to Emery being healthy enough to return to action in the near future if he lands with a team.

“He’s ready to go here,” Barry said. “I think if we put him with a team on Monday, he’d be ready to play Friday or Saturday.”

Emery Trying To Come Back From Hip Surgery

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

Sometime next week, Ray Emery will don his goalie equipment and hit the ice for the first time since undergoing surgery last spring to fix a hip injury that odds are should have ended his NHL career.

It may still. But not without a fight.

As far as anyone can tell, no NHL player has come back from the type of hip surgery the 28-year-old underwent in April. Diagnosed with avascular necrosis—essentially, the top of the ball in his right hip deteriorated to its core—Emery underwent an elaborate operation that featured bone grafted from his lower leg being inserted in the ball of his hip. In the past, his condition would have necessitated a full hip replacement, but this very specialized procedure avoided that.

“Usually when you have this type of thing done, they just want you to walk again,” Emery told ESPN.com Thursday during a break in his rehab in downtown Toronto.

Emery Done For The Season

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren released the following statement today regarding goaltender Ray Emery:

“Ray Emery will have surgery in the near future to repair his right hip. He is suffering from avascular necrosis and will have a bone graft done to alleviate his hip issues. Ray will be out for the remainder of the season.”

The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Ruch at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. The date and time of the procedure have not yet been determined.

Emery’s Injury Could Threaten His Career

from Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer,

If goalie Ray Emery does have a torn hip labrum - as the Flyers have hinted - “it’s fixable but career-threatening,” said a doctor who used to work for the club.

“Any injury to a joint is potentially a career-challenging injury,” Arthur Bartolozzi said. “It can affect your timing, your speed, your agility.”

The labrum is a ring of fibrous cartilage around the edge of the joint surface of a bone.

The Flyers would not reveal what the MRI exam on Emery’s injured left hip showed. Instead, they shut him down for three weeks in the hope the rest will enable him to return this season.

Emery’s Injury Status Still Murky

from Chuck Gormley of the Courier-Post,

Flyers goaltender Ray Emery deferred all questions about his ailing left hip Tuesday to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Holmgren then deferred all answers on his goaltender’s future until a later date.

In a brief statement forwarded from Holmgren’s cell phone to reporters Tuesday night, Holmgren said, “The MRI study and X-rays on Ray’s hip are still being looked at. We hope to have more information in a day or two.”

The Flyers appear to be indecisive over whether Emery should have surgery to repair what is believed to be a torn labrum in his left hip or to rest the injury through the NHL’s upcoming Olympic break and see how Emery responds when the club returns to action March 2.

Emery May Be Facing Surgery

from Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News,

Michael Leighton started his third straight game in goal for the Flyers last night in place of Ray Emery, who underwent an MRI yesterday on his sore left hip.

A team source told the Daily News that Emery could have a torn labrum that may require surgery.

General manager Paul Holmgren said the results from the MRI were not immediately available yesterday.

“It seems to be an issue with a lot of goalies in the league and we’re hoping to learn from what Ray underwent today,” Holmgren said. “A lot of goalies have this issue because of the way they play, so I think it’s probably something like that.”

What’s Wrong With Emery?

from Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer,

After an outstanding first six weeks, Emery has crashed. He has a 5.36 goals-against average and .814 save percentage in his last five starts. Brian Boucher replaced Emery in two games.

Emery was in the trainer’s room receiving treatment after getting shelled for five goals in a little over 31 minutes against Washington. When he came out and faced reporters, Emery was surly and barely responsive.

He used 34 words to answer five questions.

None of them explained his recent problems.

Asked if he was healthy, Emery said, “Good enough to play the game.”

Asked if he had some sort of nagging injury, Emery glared at a reporter and did not respond.

Praise For Emery As He Returns To Ottawa

from Frank Seravallii of the Philadelphia Daily News,

“He obviously had a reputation for doing all of these things that we’ve read about,” Chris Pronger said. “All I was hoping for was that he was going to stop the puck. He’s done a very good job of doing that. That other stuff can get blown out of proportion pretty easily.

“You obviously want to support a player who has come in here under a lot of scrutiny with a lot of eyeballs on him. He’s performed very well.”

It’s hard to mount an argument against that. Emery, who has posted a 9-3-1 record, is in the leaguewide Top 10 in both save percentage (.922) and goals against average (2.27). Longtime Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson joked yesterday that he hoped Emery hadn’t “worked on his game too much since he left here” because he was that good.

Off the ice, he has made a believer out of Flyers coach John Stevens.

“I laughed the other day [going to Buffalo], it was a record, he was on the plane before I was,” Stevens said. “I’ve been pleasantly surprised with who he is, how he conducts himself, how team-oriented and how hard he works. He’s really a quiet guy. You can almost say he’s shy at times. He has his own personality.”

60 Goals For Heatley?

Craig Custance of the Sporting News in a Q & A with Ray Emery…

Q: When you watched what went on with Dany Heatley this summer in Ottawa did you sympathize with him? Could you relate?
A: Yeah, it’s tough. You kind of bring it upon yourself, and I did, too. But he’s a competitive guy who voiced his opinion. I think the worst part about it all was how it came out, you know? But I think it’ll work out for both sides. They got a couple good players and I know Heater is going to have a crazy year this year.

Q: You think so?
A: Yeah, over 60 for sure.

Urban definition of Making it Rain- When you have a wad of cash and throw it in the air at a club.

Former (news must travel slow in Vegas) NHL goalie Ray Emery didn’t let the downed economy or his faltering career stop him from making it rain, either, when he visited the Bellagio in May. Emery Signing Is A Good One If…

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,

Goalie Ray Emery was articulate and honest _ and didn’t throw a single punch at Flyers trainer Jim McCrossin when he was introduced at Wednesday’s news conference in Voorhees.

OK, that was a cheap shot. But when you come with Emery’s baggage, you expose yourself to all types of criticism.

That said, Emery could emerge as the bargain of the year.

The Flyers announced Wednesday they had agreed to a one-year deal with the 6-foot-2, 196-pound Emery. The deal is for $1.5 million, and if Emery returns to his 2006-07 form _ he led Ottawa to the Stanley Cup Finals _ the Flyers will be feeling very good about themselves.

Though I was in favor of re-signing Marty Biron, I like this move - if it enables the Flyers to sign Jay Bouwmeester or Mike Komisarek, a pair of defensemen who can become free agents on July 1.

Tough Playing In Russia

from Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly,

Both (Barry) Smith and Emery’s agent, J.P. Barry, say the KHL was no summer vacation. It was serious hockey with primitive conditions outside the rink that most NHLers wouldn’t have the fortitude to tolerate.

“To go overseas to Russia to play, to me, means you really want to play,” Smith said. “It’s not easy. It is the hardest place in Europe to go and play hockey – for sure. So he chose the hardest place to play and he played very well, taking his team to first place.

“I think this speaks volumes for a kid who wants to get back in the league [NHL].”

Playing in Russia was very different than North America. Emery would have to show up at 5 p.m. – more than 24 hours before his game – at a gymnasium with other team members where they would bunk-in overnight.

“Forget what these guys were earning, they slept on cots in a gym before the game,” Barry said.

Emery was charged under the stunt driving provisions of the Highway Traffic Act. Under Ontario law, police have the authority to seize a vehicle going faster than 50 km/h above the speed limit, however they would not confirm how fast the vehicle was going.

KHL President Talks Jagr & Emery

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,

We had arranged to interview the KHL president and oil magnate through a league spokesman. We thought the timing was right given the Jaromir Jagr rumors, the Ray Emery situation, the world economic crisis, the nose-diving Russian ruble, falling oil prices and, well, the KHL’s survival.

An Edmonton Journal blog had the industry chirping Tuesday when it speculated the Oilers were taking another run at Jagr (they tried to sign him last July). The Oilers denied it. As we pointed out Tuesday, Jagr can’t leave his Russian contract with Omsk Avangard; and besides, if he did somehow sign with the Oilers, he’d have to clear NHL waivers first.

“Mr. Jagr played today for Avangard,” said Medvedev, who was in New York to take in the Capitals-Rangers game. “Legally, he has a contract. It would surprise me if it was really true that Edmonton tried to negotiate a deal with Mr. Jagr. I don’t like those rumors. But Edmonton publicly announced it wasn’t the case.”

Besides, continued Medvedev, Jagr is signed for “two years plus one [option].”

“And there is no-out clause [in the contract],” added Medvedev.

Agent: Emery to Stay in KHL

From Pierre LeBrun at his ESPN blog:

We have an update for you on that Ray Emery situation we first told you about this past weekend. The former Ottawa Senators goalie has had a change of heart and returned to his Russian hockey club in the KHL.

“I talked to Ray on Monday, and we made the decision that he should go back,” his agent, J.P. Barry, told ESPN.com on Tuesday. “I felt that he should finish what he started and that we would continue to work out the compensation issue.”

Emery didn’t report back to Mytishchi Atlant last week after the league’s break, citing a breach of contract with the club. Emery and Barry believed the Russian team has been using the wrong exchange rate to pay the goalie, and by their count, they were down about 33 percent in pay throughout the course of the season. Emery threatened to stay home in Ottawa until the matter was resolved, but he arrived back in Russia on Tuesday.

Comfortable In The KHL

from Rick Westhead of the Toronto Star,

On a recent Friday night, an unseasonably warm night for northern Russia in late November, Emery was a world away from the scrutiny and was asked what kind of mood he wakes up in most mornings.

“At the start I do the old, `Where am I?’ when I open my eyes but now I’m used to it,” he said. “Sometimes I’m still confused or feel a bit homesick when I wake up. It’s been a pretty good break for the most part. I’m just relaxing. It’s nice not having that microscope on you, being able to live.

“I miss a lot about Canada, North America, just living there, conversing with people. But at the same time, I don’t miss not being comfortable at dinner because people are watching you and you feel eyes on you all the time.”

Reflecting on Last Years Senators

From Peter O’Neil of Canwest in the Leader Post,

Former Ottawa Senators defencemen Wade Redden and Andrej Meszaros rejected Friday speculation that their former team’s collapse last year was linked to excessive partying.

The two players, who will play against each other here Saturday when Redden’s New York Rangers face the Tampa Bay Lightning, also said they never witnessed inappropriate off-season behaviour involving former teammate Ray Emery, who was asked during an interview with ESPN.com in August about whether he used recreational drugs.

Both players cited other reasons - Redden spoke of a failure to maintain the team’s historic commitment to team defence, while Meszaros suggested that exhaustion over the long playoff run the year before ultimately led to Ottawa’s second-half flop.

Emery Trying To Shed Reputation

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,

With the help of professional therapy, the support of his family and a fresh slate awaiting him in Russia, where he will tend goal for Atlant Mytishchi of the new Continental Hockey League, Emery said he’s ready to stop doing the same old things that saw him descend in startling fashion from a starting netminder with a Stanley Cup finalist to a pariah with a reputation in tatters and essentially no NHL options.

“I had lots of help,” Emery said. “I brought my family into things. I had friends I had to stop associating with. And I’ve got friends that I’m a lot closer with.”

It took the better part of two weeks to get our phone conversation lined up, and there was a feeling it might never happen, that perhaps Emery had no intention of addressing these issues with us. Yet he was text-messaging apologies and working to get a time lined up around his schedule as the team heads to training camp about an hour outside Helsinki, Finland.

A Hint Of Racism In Hockey

from Mike Toth at Sportsnet,

So, why are the rules different for Ray?

In my opinion, there’s a hint of racism in the air. Canada is becoming more multi-cultural by the day, especially in major cities. But for the most part, the hockey culture is still predominantly white and many NHL power brokers grew up in a Canada that was completely different. Unlike their compatriots in the NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball, NHL general managers don’t have any experience dealing with the Allen Iverson’s of the sports world. Many black people have their own distinct culture and when a guy like Emery walks into a dressing room with his flashy clothes and hip-hop spirit, some hockey people tend to raise their eyebrows.

What Happened To Ray

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

Before Emery was bought out of the final two years of his $6.75-million contract by the Senators, some league executives were predicting that teams “would be lined up” to sign the netminder, but it never happened.

It’s believed Emery was offered nothing more than a tryout by a couple of teams, with no promise of a contract.

This is the goaltender that led the Senators to the Stanley Cup final two years ago and now he can’t even get a sniff in the NHL. Why is that?

Update 11:15am ET: From the CP via the Globe & Mail,

“The reality is that since Ray’s buyout there hasn’t been a lot of interest, it doesn’t seem like someone (in the NHL) wants to give him a second chance right now,” Emery’s agent J.P. Barry told The Canadian Press on Wednesday. “It’s a terrific offer from Russia and we’ve been speaking to them for several weeks since the buyout.

“I’ve been talking to Ray a lot over the last couple of months and I know he’s taken a lot of steps to make changes. This is his best opportunity to play next year.”

Possible Destinations For Emery

from Sam McCaig of the Hockey News,

Here are nine teams, in alphabetical order, where Emery might fit:

Chicago – Nikolai Khabibulin can become an unrestricted free agent next summer and the up-and-coming Hawks will be looking for a goalie who can grow and develop with its young, talented team.

Colorado – If the Avs don’t re-sign Jose Theodore, they’ll be desperate for a No. 1.

Murray Talks Sens

Ottawa GM Bryan Murray was on Fan590 in Toronto a talked a bit about Ray Emery and Wade Redden.  It looks Emery will be bought out unless Murray can find a trade partner for him in the next week or so.  Murray feels it is better if the part ways even though Hartsburg did coach Emery in Sault Ste. Marie.

Murray talked a little Wade Redden too and said he will not be able to match what Redden can get on the open market, so it looks like he is gone come July 1st.

Hard To Move Emery

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

Even if they won’t admit it, the Senators know trading goalie Ray Emery just isn’t going to happen.

As a matter of fact, three league sources told Sun Media last week that dealing the enigmatic goalie is “nearly impossible” and the only option the Senators have is to buy out the remainder of Emery’s contract.

“I just can’t see anybody touching him with that deal. It’s a very high-risk situation for anyone who would want to get involved and nobody is sure if that is worth it,” a league executive said.

Bryan Murray Wants Emery Gone

From TSN,

According to Ottawa Senators General Manager and head coach Bryan Murray, Ray Emery’s tenure in the Nation’s capital is likely over.

The Senator’s top brass met with the media Friday to wrap up what turned out to be a disappointing season.  When the subject of Emery was raised, Murray made his position clear.

“My plan is not to have him back,” Murray told reporters.

Team owner Eugene Melnyk, who was part of the press conference refused to comment on the Emery situation.

Update 5:05pm ET— Updates added to that TSN story link:

Murray also said he was not about to trade Jason Spezza or Dany Heatley, saying the team made a commitment to those players being part of the team’s core group. He acknowledged that both had poor playoffs and were spoken to about it on Thursday, but added, “I’m not going to discard players like these two people.”

Emery Reflects on a Bad Season

From the CP via The Hockey News,

“I don’t take responsibility for the team losing in the playoffs, I’ll tell you that much,” Emery told a throng of media in the Senators dressing room. “I showed up late for practice twice this year and had an opportunity to still go on the ice and they told me to go home. When some other guys are late coming to the rink they’re just fine ...”

Emery has been blamed by many for ruining the chemistry on a team that many had picked to go back to the Stanley Cup final. But he disagrees that he was that much of a distraction.

“I don’t think I was a model citizen but in no way did I not encourage my teammates or take away from what they were trying to do,” said Emery.

Good Buy Out

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,

The Senators can buy out goalie Ray Emery between June 15 and June 30 at one-third of the $6.75 million left on the last two years of his deal. That would be spread out over four years, or $562,000 each year on the cap. Bet on them doing it.

Time To Ship Emery Out

from Adam Proteau of the Hockey News,

Now that it seems like the Ottawa Senators are going with Martin Gerber as their starting goaltender for the rest of the way this season, the best thing coach-GM Bryan Murray could do to keep his Stanley Cup hopes alive is demote Ray Emery to the American League as quickly as possible.

added 3:03pm, from TSN,

Ottawa’s ‘on again, off again’ No. 1 netminder expressed some remorse on Monday, shouldering some of the blame for Paddock’s dismissal.

“I was upset,” he told reporters on Monday. “I felt bad because I felt like I kind of affected someone else’s life or job or whatever. It’s a business and that stuff happens, he was a guy that I had as a coach for six years and was a big part of my pro hockey career.”

For Emery, that career has been one on hold recently.

Emery Should Apologize to Sens Fans

From Hugh Adami at The Ottawa Citizen,

Emery may have already offered heartfelt regrets to his teammates. We don’t know because that’s the type of thing that usually stays in the dressing room.

But we haven’t heard one peep from the goalie on how sorry he is after John Paddock was fired as coach by general manager Bryan Murray last week. Which is insulting considering how public Emery was in showing us a side that embarrassed the team and its fans, helped drive a wedge into the dressing room and eventually killed Paddock’s dream of bringing a Stanley Cup championship to this city. Paddock’s dismissal had much to do with his failure to corral a sulking, petulant Emery who kept blowing gaskets because he didn’t have the starting job anymore.

Paddock Points At Emery

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

Paddock admitted he should have kicked Emery off the ice when he wasn’t working in practice to send a message to the team that you have to work hard to be rewarded with playing time.

In fact, Paddock said it’s his No. 1 regret and ultimately what probably cost him his job.

“One of the things I would do over is the (Emery) stuff. Not really the tardiness,” said Paddock in a conference call with reporters.
