Betting among athletes isn’t a question of the past and present. It’s more a tradition that continues. The only difference: Today there are higher bets and lower levels of caution.
“In Edmonton there was a policy of bet till it hurts,” says a former Sabre who also played for the Oilers in the course of his NHL career. “Those guys would bet on anything. There was a lot of confidence in that room, and they spent lots of time on planes and on the road.”
