Train 2 the Tank: West Coast Meet Up for Game 2: Wings @ Sharks, May 2nd.  All aboard!

Well, it’s not Herm to Hockeytown, but it might be the second best chance for those of us who live on the west coast to get together, put some faces to the names, and watch the Wings and Sharks pitched in battle towards the cup.

The wife and I will be watching game 2 this Sunday from the 6th row of the visitor’s corner.  I’ve found club level is the only way to avoid the more troglodyte-like sharks fans.  Here’s the rub - I’ve got one extra ticket for anyone who wants to come along, throw me the loot and it’s yours.

Beyond that, I wanted to take this opportunity to gather anyone else who’s a KK reader and a west coaster just crazy enough to head all the way out to San Jose to watch the game, and congregate somewhere in San Jose beforehand for drinks, food, and good-natured trash talking.

Who knows how long it’ll be before the Wings and the Sharks face off in the playoffs again.  I still wistfully remember the two-fingered salute the wife gave the crowd when Schneider scored the OT winner a few years back.  At least I think it was Schneider.  I was pretty hammered.  Good times.  Memories in the making.  C’mon, you know you want to go.

Folks interested in coming post below; I’ll be taking the stress train down from San Francisco, beers on board, and have no idea where a good place to meet up beforehand is.  Anyone know of a good bar near the tank?  Maybe we meet up in SF first and train down as a posse.

If anyone wants that spare ticket, or wants to help organize a meet-up, email me at hippydave @ gmail.com.  Please preface the subject with TRAIN2TANK so I can pick it out from all the other spam.

Let’s do this thing!

Hey, Hippy Dave. The wife and I would love to make it, but we are having a viewing party at our place in San Jose. Perhaps we can get together for Game 5, if you want to make the trek again to the South Bay. You and your wife are welcome to meet up at our place. Let me know. I think you have my email from a while back. If not, let me know via a post and I will email you.

If you want someplace really close to the Tank, visit the Poor House Bistro. It’s two blocks south of the Tank on Autumn Street. It’s the closest place to eat and drink. They have good Cajun food and beers, plus live blues music. Not really a bar, more of a grill with beer and wine.

There are many drinking establishments on San Pedro Square (North on San Pedro St.), which is about a half mile east of the Tank. Just walk down Santa Clara St. toward downtown. On Santa Clara St. on the way to San Pedro is the Brittania Arms, an English-style pub which contains nearly every douchebag Sharks fan in the South Bay. Don’t be surprised to hear some really stupid shit on your way (for example, “Go back to Detroit” “Detroit sucks” “Fuch you”, etc.).

Regardless, enjoy the game. Hope we can meet up sometime.

Great, thanks Seaner for the advice, sorry we won’t be seeing you there.

Sounds like the stress train is leaving SF Caltrain station at 2:15, arriving at 3:51.  If anyone wants to meet up with us, comment below and we’ll hook it up.

That reminds me of a story related to me from two nice folks from Montreal I met in a pub up here in north beach.  They had just come from the shark tank, and it was the first game after the Olympics had finished.

Apparently, as they announced the gold-medal winning members of the team, the audience boo’ed them, as they played for Canada.  They cheered the one US player that one silver.  Classy.  Afterwards, they kept calling for blood on the ice.  Also classy.  Yes, I’m no stranger to their antics.  Many a post-game fight I’ve had to break up between a friend and some guy who just learned what icing meant.

The stress train is rolling 6 strong from San Francisco station to San Jose.  Cold beers, cold sandwiches, and death-stares from the Sharks fans.  Good times!
