Trade/free agency rumors

Dart Boards, Hogwash, and ‘Buzz’

Like many of you, I found the site HockeyBuzz Hogwash to be a pretty jolly laugh. Longtime readers know that I’m no fan of Dwayne “Eklund” Klessel, and I still shake my head in wonder when I see people pay money for his “rumors.” Still, someone paid Miss Cleo money, so there’s a sucker born every minute.

One of the neat things about HockeyBuzz Hogwash is their success tracker. As the Forechecker pointed out, even a broken clock is right twice a day; the Hogwash tracker shows that Dwayne’s accuracy rating is about 3%.

Now, let’s think about this logically:

Koivu to Pittsburgh? In My Dreams

Here’s a new trade rumor for you. The Pittsburgh Penguins, in an effort to shore up scoring on the wing and anticipating the return of Ryan Whitney, are looking to package Alex Goligoski with some draft picks over to Montreal for impending UFA Saku Koivu.

If Mats doesn’t sign somewhere by the end of November, another oft-delayed superstar will beat him to the punch when it comes to anticipated returns. Sundin fans who like to rock, you can no longer say, “At least Mats will sign before the new Guns N’ Roses album appears.”

Ok, so then let’s pretend that Chicago GM Dale Tallon rolls the dice and sends Khabibulin to the minors and then recalls him, effectively placing him on re-entry waivers (Chicago keeps half his cap hit and salary while Team X gets the other half).

A one-year no-risk deal for a Stanley Cup-winning goalie that has (in the past, at least) been a solid #1, all for $3.375 million. Who will go for it?

There are two things to consider here:
