All-Star Game Live Blog & Other Things

The good folks powering Versus.com (no, it’s not Keith Jones) asked if I’d be interested in live blogging the All-Star Game or the skills competition. I foolishly choose the actual game rather than the skills competition. All-Star Games are very hit and miss, so drop by here to bring some snark into your viewing experience. Oh, and Versus has given me a few goodies to post when things get dull (most likely during the intermission), so be sure to stick around.
And a few other random thoughts going into All-Star weekend…
-I haven’t seen if they’ve resolved who will be the goalies for the trick shot competition but for future competitions, wouldn’t it be cool if they had a contest where local beer league goalies could do it? I’m not sure what the criteria would be but it would drum up local interest in the community and the media and it would be an unbelievable experience for a select few.
-Sidney Crosby’s going to be at the game, just not in it. That means that Versus will probably be having an iso-cam on him sitting in the broadcast booth the whole time. That’d be funny if he just started spewing out venom at Alexander Ovechkin in a total Samuel L. Jackson-style diatribe.
-Why are the All-Star captains not the captains of their respective teams? Just sayin’. I think it’d be a good hat-tip to the local fans if one of the captains every year was the representative from that team. Of course, that means they’d have to stick with the whole “one player from each team” thing which is another point of debate.
-NHL.com has a preview with Patrick Kane and Ovechkin about the trick shot competition. Kane shows a few he’s been working on, which just gives you an idea of why the players actually get it this season.
