Can’t You Remember?

With each passing day, I think I better understand just why Dany Heatley stayed silent for so long. It’s cause every time he opens his mouth, he appears worse and worse.
Today, he gave us this gem (hat tip to the Illegal Curve guys): “I love playing in Canada. I think there were some Canadian teams on the list that I gave the Senators earlier in the summer.”
Wait. You demanded a trade, you identified the teams you wanted to go to, and now you can’t remember them? You think there were some Canadian teams on the list? Maybe Jim Balsillie’s Make It Seven campaign made it confusing for you?
Ok, Dany, seriously, let’s do the math. There are the 30 teams in the leagues. Six of them are Canadian. You’re on one of them, so you can only go to five other ones. Reports suggest that you had a list of about a half-dozen teams.
Now, one doesn’t have to be a brilliant engineer or a ven-diagram specialist to remember the breakdown of that data. This reminds me of that scene where Indiana Jones chastises his dad for not recalling critical information in his Holy Grail diary:
Indy: “Can’t you remember?”
Henry: “I wrote them down in my diary so I wouldn’t HAVE to remember.”
So maybe that’s it. Dany probably scrawled the six or so teams down on the back of a receipt or napkin, but he left that in his Ottawa home. Once he’s done with this whole Olympic camp, he’ll dig through his kitchen drawers to see if he could find that list. He might even remember that Edmonton was, in fact, on his list.

He’s been quiet because he doesn’t owe anybody any kind of reason… other than Bryan Murray - who based on the fact he is trying to make it happen - was convinced the request made sense.
I mean really, w(ho)tf are we to Dany Heatley when it comes to this? He feels he is too good to be used in the role Clouston wants to use him in. Whether he is right or wrong it’s his prerogative to make that decision - and other than the GM, he has no one else to answer to in reality. Now most team guys would take any role given to them, but Danny is high on his hockey-self… and truthfully he has a right to be, don’t know if there is a better scorer than him in the league. Ah but you say what about his D? Ask Bryan Murray about that… he’s the one who signed him to the contract long after it was a known fact the Danny was a one trick Pony.
Yea it sucks for Sens fans to have a player want to leave… but if he is as bad as many of them are saying now then they should all be happy he’s leaving… no?

Rhett, this is the link I saw it off of. Haven’t seen anything denying it.

Heatley bristled at the mere suggestion he had turned his back on suiting up for one of the six NHL teams in his home country.
“That’s just not true,” Heatley said. “I love playing in Canada. I think there were some Canadian teams on the list that I gave the Senators earlier in the summer.
Unless, of course, you’re referring to my Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade quote.

I saw that link - but I read a similar Heatley quote this morning that didn’t have the “think” in that sentence. Looking for article ...

Don’t bitch and complain about what comes out of his mouth because we all know damn well that he has no intention of publicly acknowledging why he wants out.
Does he owe anyone an explanation, beyond Bryan Murray? NO.

Garth, I’m not complaining about what he said. I just think it’s funny that, if this quote was accurate, it seems like he can’t even recall what teams were on his list.
“I think there were some Canadian teams on the list that I gave the Senators earlier in the summer.”
For a guy that focused on getting the hell out of Ottawa, you’d think he’d be able to recite those teams by heart. Not that he would disclose the list in a public forum like this, but saying something like he thinks he put some Canadian teams on there just makes the whole thing very mockable.
And that’s all I’m doing. Not complaining, just mocking. :D

I don’t know if I would go that far, NOBODY wants to go to edmonton.
Seriously, when the main attraction of a city is a giant f’ing shopping mall and weather so bad that you can only take the Ferrari out of the garage once or twice a year it’s a hard sell.
Don’t take my word for it though, take Ilya’s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ns14hRqwY8
