Good job, Montreal. Not only are you celebrating your centennial, you want to make sure that the All-Star Game on your home ice has your dudes in the starting lineup.
A quick snapshot of fan voting as of 11 AM PST (it literally took me an hour to get through the various screens as it seems like the servers are crashing) shows a disparate amount of votes heading towards the Montreal Canadiens. Here’s the rundown on the East:
Forwards
Koivu 14453
Tanguay 12338
Kovalev 11261
Savard 7322
Bergeron 7175
Semin 5796
Defense
Markov 16611
Komisarek 13480
Chara 7781
Hamrlik 5794
Ward 5355
Goalie
Price 17843
Thomas 8577
Lundqvist 2961
As for Mr. Crosby and Mr. Ovechkin? Nowhere to be seen, though I’m sure that’ll quickly change as the early voting process gives way to the general election. We’ll see which candidates have the better get-out-the-vote ground campaign…hopefully without any “Vote for Crosby” robo-calls bothering you at dinner time. (See, I’ve still got election fever!)
If you’re curious, my votes went like this:
West Forwards: Marleau, Setoguchi (part of my write-in campaign), Toews
West Defense: Boyle, Webber
West Goalie: Luongo (just for you, Alanah)
East Forwards: Lecavalier, Malkin, Vanek
East Defense: Green, Chara
East Goalie: Lundqvist

The vote board’s disparity actually shocked me. I was wondering if that MTL influence bled over to their ex-pats too b/c over the weekend, I saw Mike frickin Ribeiro leading the West! My initial vote.
West Forwards: Marleau, Setoguchi (I agree with the campaign), Boyes
West Defense: Boyle, Lidstrom
West Goalie: Nabokov (Luongo’s better, but he’s already gonna get in)
East Forwards: Jeff Carter, Malkin, Vanek
East Defense: Green, Markov
East Goalie: Miller
I have no idea what Blake is doing on that list, and upon subsequent votes, I’ve admittedly become more homer (throwing Thornton in there, he’s quietly around the same point total as his linemates). As for deserving, Getzlaf and Perry should get the nod. I’m trying to get some love for Jeff Carter too - Goal Scorer and gritty.
Not really sure how this vote will work (do writers or players have any say) on who gets to make it. Hopefully this vote is not all determinative.
