One Clarification From Saturday Night

There still seems to be some chatter in Sharks and Red Wings circles about Saturday night’s game. While some of it is falling into the always entertaining category of “You’re dumb” vs. “You’re stupid”, there’s also the debate about whether or not Patrick Marleau was on side for the game-winning goal.
This was sent to me earlier today. Not sure who did the original screencap, so hat tip to whoever did this. This screencap clearly shows Marleau onside (and how bad standard-def TV can look when blown up).

So there’s one point of contention resolved, at least for those of reasonable mind (there are those, like the crazy woman who sits behind me in games, who will blindly argue any call or non-call against their team despite clear evidence to the contrary). Now start the Claude Lemieux rants!

Very rarely do linesmen get these things wrong. Having been an official up to the Jr. A (States) level, I can tell you linesmen at the NHL level do a magnificent job.
My only question about Saturday’s game was why Babs started Ozzie. Go with Conks, the ‘hot’ goalie right now.
As for any kind of ‘statement’, that’s just foolish talk. The Sharks needed this win to save face after the previous six-zip drubbing at the Joe.

I too have no complaints about the call. I am just REALLY REALLY dissapointed with the goaltending. I can see the defense broke down a bit there, but shouldn’t Ozzbad stop at least one of those?

Yeah, any Wings fans that were claiming that was offside after seeing a quick replay should be ashamed. It was clearly a good goal, and an example of why San Jose won the game—Detroit’s D didn’t skate much in either end, while San Jose’s D was active over the entire rink all 60 minutes.

Also, I see some Wings fans complaining about Ozzie’s play. And rightfully so. But Nabby was equally bad in the 6-0 whipping at the Joe, and was pretty weak on the opening goal in the 6-5 game the other night. He hasn’t exactly been a strength for the Sharks in the head-to-head with the Wings this year (let alone for his whole career).

No complaints about the call here. Just for the lapse in Wings D and lackluster performance in net.
Overall I think the officiating went largely unnoticed, which is always a good thing.
