Customized Jersey Update #2

For anyone following my saga with the whole customized replica jersey, I just put in an order over at Ice Jerseys for a new Sharks 3rd jersey replica with customized (if you recall, customized replicas from NHL.com only have heat-transferred lettering/numbering while Ice Jerseys and a few other places have authentic stitching and materials). Unfortunately, that particular jersey is on back-order for about a month, but once I get it, I’ll give a full report on the quality vs. my NHL.com replica I bought last year.

As many readers know, I’ve been trying to help people avoid the disasters of buying a customized replica jersey (RBK Premiere, not RBK EDGE) from NHL.com and their crappy iron-on lettering/numbering. I’ve received a little bit of feedback and have checked things out in the Bay Area, so here’s a little update.

Yesterday, I asked readers to leave comments about where they got letter/number customizations for their replica jerseys. The driving force behind this is the fact that many of us have gotten burned by buying customized replicas from NHL.com, as those jerseys have iron-on letters and numbers.

Where Did You Buy Your Customized Jersey?

With the season just a few weeks away, many fans are shopping for new jerseys, especially with third jerseys being announced. From my experience, if you buy a customized replica off NHL.com, the lettering and numbering is heat-transfered on, not stitched on. It looks cheap and feels flimsy, and they only provide true stitching when you plunk down $300 for an authentic jersey.
I’m a dedicated fan but that’s just not in my budget. However, I’ve heard fan chatter about other places providing actual stitched lettering and numbering even if you bought a replica jersey (the RBK Premiere).
