CBC Sports announced today that the response to Canada’s Hockey Anthem Challenge has been overwhelming, with a whopping 1,200 entrants in less than one month - as Canadians vie to compose an all-new musical theme for CBC’s flagship sports broadcast CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA.
“The response from Canadians has been extraordinary, we couldn’t be more pleased,” says Scott Moore, Executive Director of CBC Sports. “As of this morning, the fact that we’ve received 1,200 submissions from coast to coast in such a short period of time exemplifies that this is truly a national competition and Canadians are thrilled about the opportunity to be a part of hockey history.”
Since the contest launched on June 19, 2008, CBC has received a total of 1,200 entries from 10 provinces and two territories. The province of Ontario leads the way with 647 submissions followed by British Columbia with 187 and Alberta with 71. A complete breakdown of entrants by province and territory is listed below.
Submissions by Province and Territory:
· Alberta (71)
· British Columbia (187)
· Manitoba (32)
· New Brunswick (17)
· Newfoundland (24)
· NW Territories (1)
· Nova Scotia (45)
· Ontario (647)
· Prince Edward Island (4)
· Quebec (30)

With six weeks left in the challenge contestants are encouraged to register at Canada’s Hockey Anthem Challenge website CBCSports.ca/anthemchallenge. The final song will be revealed during CBC’s HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA first Saturday night doubleheader of the 2008-09 season on
October 11th.
IS there something wrong with the theme song selection site?
First off, if you sort by top rated songs, one song has a 4/5 with the rest all 2/5. The song that is rated 4/5 is the most horrible strange beat thing I’ve ever heard. There is a baby crying mixed in at one point. What the hell is going on?
Jazzy Hockey Night should win. The composition has so much instrumental mobility.
