Last one of the week, and we go with one of the few constants in hockey broadcasting over the past couple decades, “Hockey Night in Canada” host Ron MacLean.
He was hired by HNIC for the 1986-87 season to work the telecasts out of Western Canada, but replaced Dave Hodge in Toronto at the end of the season, where he’s been ever since.
His duties include hosting “Coach’s Corner” and “Hotstove” during the intermissions of the telecast. He’s also a Level 5 referee in the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. But broadcasting-wise, how do you think Ron MacLean is doing?
He knows his stuff(both on games and related hockey matters), works as a good counter-point to Don Cherry, and generally does a good job of giving each team a fair shake. I prefer his work over any other national broadcaster.
