NEW YORK – May 16, 2008 – NBC Sports’ coverage of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs continues this weekend with the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins looking to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. The Red Wings will host the Dallas Stars Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET, holding a 3-1 lead in their Western Conference Final series. On Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, the Philadelphia Flyers will try to keep their Eastern Conference Final series alive in Pittsburgh, trailing 3-1. NBC is broadcasting up to 15 games in high definition throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final (see below schedule). NBC’s coverage is presented by Edge Shave Gel.
Mike “Doc” Emrick (play-by-play), Eddie Olczyk (analyst) and Mike Milbury (inside-the-glass reporter) call the action. On Saturday, Bill Patrick, subbing for Pierre McGuire, will host NBC’s studio show on site from Detroit, alongside Milbury. Sunday in Pittsburgh, Bob Neumeier, fresh off his Saturday Preakness assignment, will fill in for McGuire.
EVERY 33 YEARS…: Both the Stars and the Flyers are looking to rally from 0-3 deficits. Only two times in NHL history has a team come back from 0-3 to win a series: the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Detroit Red Wings and the 1975 New York Islanders against the Maple Leafs.
NBCSPORTS.COM OFFERS “STAR-CAM”: NBCSports.com will offer two “Star-cams,” for each of the remaining Stanley Cup Playoff and Final games, allowing the site’s visitors to view a camera isolated on a specific player for each team on each shift.
Every game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final on NBC will be available to mobile viewers on NBC Universal’s mobile channel NBC2Go.
“THE NHL HAS NEVER LOOKED OR SOUNDED BETTER”: NBC’s NHL coverage has received critical acclaim, earning praise for innovations such as “Inside the Glass,” a reporter position between the teams’ benches first introduced by NBC hockey producer Sam Flood. ESPN.com said of NBC’s hockey coverage, “the NHL has never looked or sounded better in its free, on-the-air history.” The Hockey News called “Inside the Glass,” “the biggest innovation to hit televised hockey in recent years” and the Toronto Star said it “is proving to be one of the best broadcasting innovations since the advent of the second camera” providing viewers “with the kind of insights that only someone in that position could get.” “Hockey has found a network that will let the sport be the sport,” said the San Jose Mercury News. The Daily News said, “[Mike] Milbury has brought reality - and a sharp edge - to the Peacock’s NHL studio. He also has displayed something many analysts - in all sports - lack: guts.” “Pierre McGuire’s verbal sparring with Milbury has been nothing short of classic theater,” said the Philadelphia Inquirer.

You have got to be kidding me. Milbury is not a smart man. The reasons these guys cannot get a paid job in hockey is obvious every time they open their mouths.
