About Eye on the Media

Eye on the Media, debuted on Kukla’s Korner in February of 2008, and deals with all the evil, weird and just plain insane things that happen when hockey ventures into the foreign worlds of TV, Radio and News Print. I am a student, and a communications major, in New Jersey, which by association means you can blame me for destroying hockey. I love hockey and wants to hear everything you have to say about the way our game is covered.

From NBC Universal Media:

The Detroit Red Wings, trying to hold on to the top spot in the Western Conference, will host the Chicago Blackhawks, currently three points out of the West’s eighth and final playoff spot, in the NHL Sunday Game of the Week, 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC, the final game of the regular season. Mike “Doc” Emrick (play-by-play), Eddie Olczyk (analyst) and Pierre McGuire (inside-the-glass reporter) call the action. McGuire will pull double duty, hosting NBC’s studio show alongside analyst Mike Milbury on site at Joe Louis Arena. NBC’s NHL coverage is produced by Sam Flood, the son of a hockey coach and former captain of the Williams College hockey team.

Read on, and note that you can head to NHL.tv or NBCSports.com and view ISO cams of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane for the entire game.

From Teddy Greenstein at The Chicago Tribune:

McDonough is determined to have all 82 Blackhawks games televised next season.

As many as 25-30 could go on free, non-cable TV. WGN-Ch. 9, which carried Hawks games in the 1960s and early ‘70s, and WPWR-Ch. 50 are two possible landing spots.

I’m sure the NHL would enjoy having Kane, Toews, Byfuglien, Sharp and Co. on what is essentially free, national TV on WGN, as the Bulls, White Sox and Cubs already do.
