About Eye on the Media
Eye on the Media, debuted on Kukla’s Korner in February of 2008, and deals with all the evil, weird and just plain insane things that happen when hockey ventures into the foreign worlds of TV, Radio and News Print. I am a student, and a communications major, in New Jersey, which by association means you can blame me for destroying hockey. I love hockey and wants to hear everything you have to say about the way our game is covered.

“Hockey Night” in Mandarin
by Steve on 04/03/08 at 04:41 PMComments (0)
CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA continues to break new ground for hockey fans as the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs get underway on Wednesday, April 9—with a special ethnic flavour. For the first time ever during the NHL post-season, CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA will feature Mandarin language broadcasts live and on-demand throughout each round of the playoffs, available at CBCSports.ca.
“CBC is committed to providing all Canadians with the most comprehensive coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs,” said Joel Darling, director of production, CBC Sports. “This is a great opportunity for us to introduce new audiences to the high-intensity NHL playoffs and CBCSports.ca provides us with an ideal platform to do just that.”
Hughson and Simpson to Call 2 Games on Saturday
by Steve on 03/21/08 at 02:09 AMComments (0)
From William Houston at The Globe & Mail:
Tomorrow, he and game analyst Craig Simpson will call the 3 p.m. EDT Colorado Avalanche-Edmonton Oilers game at Rexall Place in Edmonton.
Then they will board a chartered flight to Calgary to announce the Minnesota Wild-Flames game at 10 p.m. EDT.
“I spotted it on the schedule in September and thought, ‘I want to do that, baby,’ “ Hughson said yesterday. “As soon as we talked about it at the start of the year, it seemed like a natural.”
CBC Will Likely Win Hughson

From Chris Zelkovich at The Star:
The fear out west is that Hughson, the heir apparent to Bob Cole at Hockey Night in Canada, will abandon his regional Canucks duties when his Sportsnet contract expires at the end of this season. The fear at CBC is that Hughson, who has decided he can no longer serve two masters, will choose Sportsnet when his CBC deal runs out after the playoffs.
“Doing both is really difficult,” Hughson says from his Vancouver home. It’s particularly tough in the NHL west, where every trip is a long one.
The Final Horn for 2/15/08
by Steve on 02/16/08 at 02:35 PMComments (0)
It was a quiet, but impactive night in the National Hockey League. In the inaugural edition of “The Final Horn”, I’ll break down last night’s games, riff on the top headlines of the day, and take down a Canadian institution. Yes, out of all my respect for the Saturday Night Canadian Exclusive Game, I say it’s time for us Yanks to rebel against it! Sort of…
A Hockey Night Pipe Dream

American hockey diehards have long wished for that great day where our sport can be fully accepted as one of the major sports in this country. We want it to become so big that it will be worthy of the diehard coverage that football or baseball or basketball gets on the various networks.
We all have our own dreams of what a “Hockey Night in America” would look like, and here’s mine.
