About Eye on the Media
Eye on the Media, debuted on Kukla’s Korner in February of 2008, and deals with all the evil, weird and just plain insane things that happen when hockey ventures into the foreign worlds of TV, Radio and News Print. I am a student, and a communications major, in New Jersey, which by association means you can blame me for destroying hockey. I love hockey and wants to hear everything you have to say about the way our game is covered.

by Steve on 04/21/08 at 06:35 PMComments (1)
From Sports Media Watch:
NBC saw double-digit increases for Stanley Cup Playoff coverage over the weekend.
Flyers/Capitals Game 5 and Red Wings/Predators Game 6 averaged a combined a 1.3 overnight rating on NBC, up 30% from the 1.0 the network averaged for games on the comparable weekend last year.
Flyers/Capitals drew a 1.2 overnight, up 33% from a 0.9 for Flames/Red Wings Game 5 last year.
Meanwhile, Red Wings/Predators drew a 1.3, up 18% from a 1.1 for Devils/Lightning Game 6 last year. The 1.3 overnight is the second-highest of the season for the NHL on NBC, behind only the 2.6 for the Winter Classic in January.

A reminder, be civil, as these were made up on Thursday, prior to both last night’s Philly-Washington Game #5 and tonight’ Wings-Nashville Game #5. They, by which I mean NBC Universal Media, had to get the release out, so folks like me could post it:
NEW YORK – April 17, 2008 – NBC Sports’ coverage of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs continues this weekend with Game 5 between the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals Saturday, 1 p.m. ET from Washington, D.C., with the Flyers leading the series 2-1 heading into tonight’s Game 4. Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, the Detroit Red Wings visit the Nashville Predators, with the series tied at two games apiece. Game 5 is Friday night in Detroit. NBC is broadcasting up to 15 games throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final (see below schedule). NBC’s coverage is presented by Edge Shave Gel.

Go Inside the Game with “Malkin Cam”
by Steve on 03/16/08 at 11:12 AMComments (1)
NHL.com is streaming the “Malkin Cam” during the NBC broadcast of Penguins-Flyers at Noon. It will be called “Crosby Cam” if you head to NHL.com, but it will be Malkin Cam, trust me. Because why would the NHL force you to watch Sid sitting with Mario all afternoon?
Head to NHL.tv, or check out the stream right here at 12:00 PM ET.
