On the Forecheck

A different take on Surf n Turf

Tuesday they preyed on Sharks, tonight Duck was on the menu.

After starting this six-game road trip with three straight losses, the Nashville Predators have found redemption with back-to-back victories in unlikely venues San Jose and Anaheim.  Unlike the robbery that Dan Ellis committed earlier this week when he made 54 saves in an OT win over the Sharks, tonight’s 4-3 overtime decision in Anaheim was more of a team effort.

Let’s go to the highlights…

The best news for Nashville is that Ellis put in a third consecutive solid game, making several stops on close-in chances the Ducks generated.  Offensively, it was a gang affair, as nine different players earned points, led by Hamhuis (GWG and one assist) and Shea Weber (2 assists).  Ryan Jones not only opened the Predators’ scoring with a power play goal, but he created that man-advantage by drawing a Hooking call on Sammy Pahlson.

J.P. Dumont continued his steady production with the Preds’ second goal, snagging a puck from behind the goal line and stuffing it behind J.S. Giguere before he could come back to the right post.  Jason Arnott led the attack with 5 shots, and set up Hamhuis for the game-winning goal.

In short, it was a typical Barry Trotz road win; it required contributions from just about every player on the roster, and the team with the sure-fire Hall of Famers on their bench ended up shaking their heads in defeat.  Now the challenge is bringing forth another strong game in Los Angeles tomorrow night, despite behind hamstrung with injuries.  With any luck, Martin Erat will return to action and help keep this widespread offensive production rolling.

And remember, text those All-Star Game ballots to 81812.  Text “predators” to vote for Arnott and Weber (the two Preds on the official ballot), or text the last name of a write-in candidate (like, say, Dumont).
