While hockey fans around the US are glued to Versus tonight watching the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues, toss a few All-Star votes in the electronic ballot box for Shea Weber, won’t you? If anyone deserves a vote based on a sensational start to a season, it’s Big #6 for the Preds. From the NHL’s PR department:
-- Nashville’s Shea Weber scored two goals at Carolina on Sunday, giving him 10 goals in the Predators’ 20 games this season. Weber is the first NHL defenseman to reach double-figures in goals in a season so quickly since 1987-88, when Buffalo’s Phil Housley scored his 10th goal in the Sabres’ 15th game and Toronto’s Al Iafrate did it in the Maple Leafs’ 19th game.
The man is doing things out there that haven’t been done since Guns N’ Roses’ debut album ruled the charts, for crying out loud!

...and now Guns n’ Roses is coming out with a new album at the same time!
Coincidence? I think not…

Weber’s a great, great player. How has he been defensively Dirk?

He’s doing a good job in his own end; checking his 5-on-5 Behind the Net stats, he’s one of the few Preds with a positive Corsi number, and his effect on GF and GA is the best on the team (among players with at least 10 GP). He takes a few too many penalties for my taste (more of aggression than getting caught out of position), but in the main, he’s handling the burden of extra ice time very well (over 24 minutes/G this year, compared to 19 previously).
He’s also the lone Predator defenseman who can really change the tempo in the defensive end by throwing his weight around. Other guys will bump opposing forwards, Weber flattens them.

I will take a “I told you he would ge good”, Here in Calgary it’s all Phenueaf(i don’t care to spell it) is the greatest d-man in the history of hockey, but I have been telling people for 2 yrs here that there is another young d, that will be much better than dion. Shea is a complete package, O & D, and will be a leader on Canada’s 2010 team(yeah I know, us Canadian are obsessed with our next Olympic team)
