Getting Obama to “Rock the Red”

From Sports Business Journal this morning, we have a profile and interview with original Nashville Predators, and current Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold.  Besides digging into the current state of business in Minnesota and the NHL overall, Leipold shows a savvy for tapping into today’s political climate in order to promote the game:

Do you have any suggestions for the president-elect?
LEIPOLD: I’d like to get him out to some hockey games. I understand he likes basketball, but let’s get him out to some of the Capitals games and see if he can’t be as excited about hockey as he is about basketball.

Over to you, Mr. Leonsis...

Thanks to the folks at SportsBusinessJournal.com for making this article (normally for subscribers only) available to our readers today.  It’s always interesting to hear from ownership about the economics of the game, particularly with quotes like this: ”...the value of the asset is getting larger and larger even though your losses may continue. That’s not a normal business model.

I’d rather have him rock the red in a nice new Toews sweater here at the UC.  Maybe he’s important enough to actually get a winter classic ticket..

Here’s the sign I took* to the Verizon Center two days after the Election

?????? At site

*and by “took” I mean “snuck in” because the security goons at the VZ Center told me that “political signs are not allowed”.  I tried showing them my VIP Season Ticket holder pass, but they were unmoved and only became more a#@-holish so I had to sneak it in through the entrance from the Green Turtle.

I’m curious how you seem to regard Leipold in a positive light? Sure, he brought hockey to Nashville, but the circumstances around his sale of the Preds and his purchase of the Wild stink to high heaven. The only thing I’m interested in hearing him say is that he’s jumping off a cliff.

While it’s a good idea to proofread any prospective post, this is especially true in cases where you refer to someone smarter than you as ‘Clueless’.

Or didn’t they teach you that in Trolling 101?

I’m more impressed that he calls it the MCI Center - It’s been the Verizon Center since ‘06.  At least he didn’t call it the Captial Centre
