Give thanks for Penalty Plus/Minus

Patrick O’Sullivan is still King of the Hill in the NHL Penalty Plus/Minus rankings this week, and some of his competition will have difficulty keeping up. Despite being tied for 2nd in the league having generated 13 net power plays for the Nashville Predators, rookie Ryan Jones was sent down to Milwaukee for what is expected to be a short-term assignment, with a recall to the big club later this week.
Vancouver defenseman Shane O’Brien holds down the cellar with a -12 rating, while Robert Lang has taken over the bottom spot among all forwards, with a -11. I’m guessing that as they chase the Bruins in the Northeast division, Habs fans would like a little less penalty box time from “the Enigma.”

Here’s a few extra tidbits to chew on this week:
Jason Chimera of the Columbus Blue Jackets has committed the most non-coincidental penalties while his team is on the power play, with 7. Way to short-circuit your team’s man advantage, there!
When it comes to the three penalties that are most associated with having to haul down an opponent who has gotten by you (Hooking, Holding, and Tripping), Stephane Robidas of the Dallas Stars leads the way with 10 such fouls, followed by Florida’s Jay Bouwmeester with 9.
In terms of being the victim of Hooks, Holds and Trips, Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg is the most popular target with 11 calls drawn, followed by L.A.‘s O’Sullivan with 10.
