Have you seen this Predator?

If things don’t turn around quickly, I suspect the Nashville Predators will have a special giveaway for fans coming to Saturday’s home game against Columbus:

David Legwand, Nashville Predators

Apparently inspired by the red-carpet entrance that the Chicago Blackhawks made before their home opener Monday night, the Predators rolled out the welcome mat for the Dallas Stars and all but provided them an escort to the front of Dan Ellis’ net by giving up 5 goals (plus an empty netter) last night.  The end result, a 6-4 loss that featured a hat trick for Stars rookie Fabian Brunnstrom, was especially disappointing because the Preds fought hard to create some offense, only to throw the game away at the other end of the rink.

Take a look at the shot chart below, lifted from ESPN’s game summary, and you’ll find 10 shots taken by Dallas from the hashmarks in; that, my folks, is a classic example of hanging your goaltender out to dry.

Nashville Predators vs. Dallas Stars shot chart

Kudos to Patric Hornqvist and Ryan Jones for registering their first career goals, but with Jason Arnott out for at least two more games, that vaunted young defense needs to lock things down in their own end, and David Legwand needs to assert some leadership up front.  Until that happens, the Preds are going to show up on the wrong end of the highlights just as they did for Fabian Brunnstrom last night…

Two well-played games, two poorly-played games. Methinks we might see this a lot in the next six months.
